Title: Play by Email Anyone?
Post by: climbjtree on December 23, 2012, 03:36:49 AM
So I've a shit internet connnection, and I don't have the time to really play games over here. I do however have the time to play a PBEM game and I'd like to get one started with some F13 folks. From what I've seen, our best options are the Vassal Engine (www.vassalengine.org) and its various modules or GamesByEmail (www.gamesbyemail.com).

I've looked at GamesByEmail.com, and they've got a good clone of Axis and Allies with no download required. That's a game I really enjoy and I think it'd be a good one to get started. They've also got Diplomacy, which is a good time. If we can manage a few people who want to give it a go, I'll get a game going. If you're interested, post here and PM me an email I can send the invite to.

If you look through the Vassal stuff and find something you think would be better, post here and let's give it a look!

Edit: I forgot about www.playdiplomacy.com - It's probably the best place online that I've found to play Diplomacy.

I don't know what Diplomacy is either, but I'll give it a whirl.

Gamer handle is Viin, though I can't seem to see how to invite someone to a game - I think you just make one with a password and hope your friend can find it?

I'd also be up for a nice, friendly game of Diplomacy.

Careful, this one knows what Diplomacy is.

Alright, I've created a Diplomacy game for four players.

Game No: 53273
Name: F13
PW: batcountry

The countries are first come first serve, so get in there. Also, I set it to 24 hour "turns" because we span hemispheres.

Edit: I must have hit the Create Game button twice. There's two F13 games, so the game number is important.

Why is it limited to 4 players - might as well open it up.

Yeah, 4 for diplomacy is too few IMO. I'd go 5-6.

I'd tend to agree with you, but it didn't really seem like there was a lot of interest. How 'bout this? We'll disregard that game and make something like a sign up list. I believe the max player limit is 6.

So... post if you're down for a game of Diplomacy.

I'm in, obviously.

There's also http://www.flyingbuffalo.com/ (http://www.flyingbuffalo.com/) if you want to play StarWeb - I played that via snail mail in the late 70s. It was fun, pouring over the matrix dot printed paper that arrived for each move. I don't know how well it's held up over the years, though.

(Very neckbeardy warning and apologies - What a terrible website that is. If anyone wants to know what the first websites looked like, this is a good example.)

Dip should be the full 7 or play something else, IMO. I'd join up but I am having computer issues that are going to prevent me from functioning for a while probably.

I thought we only had 1 more slot to fill but then it disappeared. Did you cancel it?

We should try again now that most folks are back to work this week..

Ah ha, it shows up under My Pending Games now and you can't search for it once you join.

6 total players now, 1 more for a full set?
