Title: f13 Funding Drive: 2012 Edition
Post by: schild on September 04, 2012, 08:28:45 AM
I almost put this thing on Kickstarter for shits and giggles, but then I'd actually be required (theoretically) to deliver things. I also didn't want to deal with randoms donating to it for whatever reason thinking they're feeling special. Oh, and I didn't want Kickstarter/Amazon to shave 20% or whatever off the top. That said.

Soft Goal: $1450

This funds the server for a year. I should really kill the Something for Nothing subscription thing since I think there's like 3 people doing it.  :oh_i_see:

That said, there's some stuff you can get, Kickstarter style, I suppose.

$0-$49: You get nothing except the feeling that you just threw money into an endless sink.
$50: The staff at f13 will grief title you. No mulligans.
$75: SEND ME A PM FOR APPROVAL BEFORE YOU DONATE AT THIS LEVEL: You get to grief title yourself. Submit your grief title, staff will get back to you shortly on approval.
$125: SEND ME A PM FOR APPROVAL BEFORE YOU DONATE AT THIS LEVEL: You get to grief title someone else. Submit your grief title, staff will get back to you shortly on approval.
$175: SEND ME A PM FOR APPROVAL BEFORE YOU DONATE AT THIS LEVEL: You get a unique color for your name. Also, you get a unique usergroup since that comes with it.
$225: SEND ME A PM FOR APPROVAL BEFORE YOU DONATE AT THIS LEVEL: Unique Color, Usergroup, and Self-Made Grief Title.
$XXX: Custom level. If you want to say, resurrect a game, or make a forum, or if you're an indie dev that is looking for something else, just message me. We'll figure something out. I can't say it will be cheap. If you're an individual person that just wants, I don't know, the Ultima Online forum to jump back into MMOG gaming, that works too. Your choices at this level absolutely reflect what kind of person you are, so if you want to do this, know that other people will judge you.

Where will the money go?

First: Money will go towards the f13 server for the year.
Second: Assuming the goal is met - money that comes from the "Custom" Donation Level, should the level require cash (forum mods, upgrades, reviews or something else on f13 - software, etc.)
Third: Into the bank til next year.
Fourth: If we somehow knock it out of the park and exceed $3,000 - I think the staff here deserves some free games over the next year. Every $780 over $3,000 gets them each a game of their choice (MSRP $60 (x 13 staff members) - ON STEAM. Myself excluded. This being Bhodi, Fabricated, Lesion, Rasix, Rattran, Samwise, WayAbvPar, Xilren's Twin, Yegolev, and Yoru. And of course Trippy. And maybe Nix, if he's lucky. If someone wants a game that costs less than $60, the remaining money will go to Hookers and Blow - for me.

CLICK HERE TO DONATE (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=9272671)

If you donate $50 and want the staff-chosen grief title, message me and say "grief me" with the paypal information (the email address you sent it with). We will not necessarily be kind.

Choices choices.

Tempted to let you guys pick the grief title.

Post by: schild on September 04, 2012, 09:57:58 AM
Everyone who wants us to grief title them will have to patiently wait. I'm going to post a list to the staff forums each week and we'll mull over it. It won't be "immediate" for most unless it's something that's so obvious that you would've gotten it for free if we weren't making you buy them now f13 was free to run.

The internet is awesome.   :awesome_for_real:

People who are donating $50+ need to PM me with what they want and paypal info - my paypal account moves fast and I can't really easily look up every email address (some don't even crosscheck to f13 email addresses).

I get paid on the 20th. Addtionally allow until the weekend for my brain to start working and remember that the donation drive is a thing that exists.

Plopped down a big chunk, figure it is cheap for 5+ years of entertainment when I couldn't afford to donate anything.

Post by: schild on September 06, 2012, 05:55:21 AM
Thank you sir!

On that note, we're 83% of the way to the first year. I'm really hoping we kill two years this time!

Title: Re: f13 Funding Drive: 2012 Edition
Post by: schild on September 06, 2012, 07:19:41 AM
To put it more clearly, we need $1771 more to pay for a total of 2 years on the server (which means we would either not do a drive next year, or we would do one purely for people to change/buy titles and whatnot and get the staff here some games).

Can we get a graphic to show donation progress and goals?

Also, I'll pledge to donate whatever's in my paypal account by the 15th since I'm dumping my D3 RMAH sales there. I think it's $28 so far.

We are $183 from the first goal.

What, precisely, do you need a graphic for?

Nobody needs a graphic, they just are nice for helping people get motivated to reach goals. It's like those thermometer things they put up with fundraising numbers. I figured it might help.

Post by: schild on September 06, 2012, 03:09:28 PM
We are $15 away from the first goal, and $1565 away from the second goal.

I'd really like to get the server going for 2 years at once folks. Would be aweeeeesome.

I actually upped the second one from $2900 to $3000 so I could shove a bunch of years onto the domain, among other things. Also it makes for a number with three zeroes, which is sexy. Like that image.

You know, my sister had shingles once.  It was really unpleasant.  She got it in her eye.  I think it was shingles.  No, wait.  It was skittles.  I'm not sure now.

Anyway, I think I've been griefed here enough over the last decade or so.  Or, as Mr. Spellchecker insists, "briefed".  I've been briefed.

Edit:  It might have been rickets.  I just remember it was caused by chicken pox.  Or maybe measles.  You know.

Suggestion, perhaps late in the game, add a tier where we add Tapatalk support for mobile devices?

It would require updating to 1.1.11 which is why I haven't nagged about it before, but thought perhaps some $ might motivate.

No. Tapatalk has had a long and glorious history of security vulnerabilities. And I'm always suspicious of "proxies" by default. I.e. things like your username and password pass through their app.

In Firefox: Tools -> Options -> Content -> Colors. You'll find it there. Does it work, I have no clue, I just know where it is. You can test it.

Edit: Looks like you can force override all that shit, so yea, should work. I refuse to see links underlined though. It's the worst.

That overrides all the colors for everything, everwhere. Not quite ideal.

I found that too, but then after tinkering with it I realized that the reason Schild doesn't turn on underlining is because it turns on underlines for EVERY link on the whole site - and there are a lot! I really just want the body of posts to have underlines, but it doesn't appear that the cell is identified with a class to apply the CSS to. Just a buncha nested tables.

Since we're talking about quirks I, and I imagine a lot of other people, use the "Show unread" list as my link here.  So you get a list like this:

For some terrible reason each of those "new" buttons that you use to go to the thread opens the page in the current window, instead of a new one, destroying the list itself.  I just don't know what the guy who wrote it was thinking.  So I have to right click and select new window (or a similar hotkey combo) for every thread.  It's weird.

I like that the links aren't underlined though, that would be too many damn underlines, the change in color is all I need.

Title: Re: f13 Funding Drive: 2012 Edition

I could see using a different color for the text links instead of underlining. I often miss links unless I'm looking closely. Maybe a nice yellow.

I use that list all the time and not quite sure what you are going on about. I use the L at the far right to open to the last post on the list and hit back button when I am done reading it - which gives me the list sans thread I was just reading because it is no longer new. Does your list go bonkers for some reason?

Title: Re: f13 Funding Drive: 2012 Edition
Post by: Miasma on September 28, 2012, 02:25:26 PM
If it popped up a new window then you wouldn't have to keep going back and forth and I wouldn't have to right click to open new windows.

And why would you use the L?  That brings you to the very last post then you have to find out where you left off.  If you use the new button it places you at the newest post since you last read the thread.

I ctrl-click the last page number for the thread. Some threads I even remember which page I was on last and can tell if it's moved particularly quickly and need to click on an earlier page than the last one. That sounds really sad and nerdy, but I just have a good memory  :awesome_for_real:

I had no idea this show unread list thing existed. Will have to try it.
