Title: Season 6 - Day 5 All Divisions
Post by: IainC on July 24, 2012, 10:35:46 AM
The league has been advanced in all divisions and now we are at day 5. Get these games done as fast as possible please, especially those of you in Hordes so that we can try and reduce the post-season wait for the other divisions.

Results from Day 4

Deadline to get these games played is August 5th and I'm going to get a lot less lenient for overrunning games from now on, if there's no firm plan to play a game posted in the thread before the deadline then I'm going to award 0-0 draws to both coaches.

Time to get chaotic!   :drill:

When can you play, Gruntle?  You're on the west coast so this shouldn't be too difficult.  I'm only two hours away.

indeed so, i am cursed to eke out a wretched existence in the boulder strewn badlands of san francisco. 11 pm my time tonight is a little iffy but i could probably manage 11 pm tomorrow night; alternately i'm intending to work from home this thursday and can take a work timeout whenever.

AND YOUR PUNY RATS DON'T SCARE DROGG. I'LL TEAR THOSE GUTTER RUNNERS APART

Vermin    - 1
Huhnqua - 2

First half the lizards seemed on top, knocking players out left and right. TD turn 8 for the lizards followed by a quick response before the half by Cheddar Persille.

Second half a blitz and a few bad dice, slowed the rats but they anyway pushed for a quick score, which didn't come off. Lizards capture the ball and hold it till a turn 16 TD.

Rats have two linemen out next game and a GR on -1AV. One of the other runners levelled up.

HHB swallows Ermine Vermin whole, 2-1. 5 injuries to the accursed rats, including a -1 AV to the +str + move GR (saved from death by the apoc, damn him).

eldaec's score was a classic one-turner at the bottom of the first half where one gutter runner passes to the other who runs all the way down the field and leaps over the skinks at the end while laughing to himself about how pathetic the enemy team is.  my luck with armor rolls returned with a vengeance after the lean game with comstar and let me bloody the skaven early, which gave me the freedom to position my saurii in all kinds of spoiler spaces just waiting for eldaec's luck to give out.  both of my scores came at the end of halves to minimize the vermin response, which thankfully panned out alright, though there were a few scary GR blitzes to keep me on my toes.

Ruvaldt's Ex-Presidents stomped the Nifty Helmets to the ground and then jumped up and down on them in celebration of their 3-0 victory.
The Helmets, with a wealth of TV difference to spend, choose the always chancy double minotaur offense (by hiring Star Player Darkhoof who got KO'd in the first turn of each half) and then got bashed to pieces by Ruvaldts better-played team (with the lucky part being that there were no permanent injuries or deaths, just a couple MNGs).
We'll let the stats speak for themselves:

Ok Satael I will add you in steam, busy tonight but think we can probably get our game in over the weekend since I am UK based so BST means we only have an hour or 2 time difference to cope with.

Good game, Gruntle.  Gruntle was pretty forgiving in his synopsis of the match; two of my touchdowns were from passes which required me to roll a 6, otherwise it would've been a 1-0 game.  With a claw/mb imbalance the Helmets had a pretty high hurdle to overcome from the beginning, and had me pretty well worried/pressured at the end of the first half.

Franklin Pierce scores two TDs and an MVP...I think he has 103 spps now.  I really need to start scoring with other players.  Jimmy Carter leveled, finally.

Day 5 brought another defeat (1-2) for the disciples despite the lizard's bad luck with the dice and the great effort by Morg n' Thorg.

The Minizilla's 2 - Warp Cheese Disciples 1

This match was far from the classic 2-1 grind and more like the 2-1 mad scramble. With a hefty amount of gold for inducements to bridge the TV gap Satael brough Morg and the star player rat ogre and 2 babes. The babes were wasted cash, unfortunately for me I couldn't say the same about the star players who made it hard to bully the rats since my centre was always over matched.

The half started with me losing the toss and Satael elected to receive and the match looked like getting off to a promising start as on only his second block his loner rat ogre rolled both downs attacker down and failed the loner re-roll for a quick turnover but with decent cover I was not able to easily move a marker onto the player with the ball and the common theme for me this half started as I failed my GFI and the subsequent re-roll ending my turn almost as quickly as Satael did.

Satael made a push down my flank and as I had tried to capatalise on the early turn over most of my Saurus' were far up the pitch, and with a score looking likely I had to risk a dodge with my break tackle saurus to move a decent hitting marker onto the ball carrier, he failed the dodge and broke armour to badly hurt himself and remove himself for the rest of the match. I did manage to get 2 markers on the gutter runner with the ball but he easily made the dodge to open the scoring on turn 5.

I receive and setup for my standard sideline cage but blitzing with my new frenzying killer saurus I find that I have a hard time the rest of the match knowing that I can't guarantee where my cage corners are going to end up and allow Satael to put a lot of pressure on my cage and when a blitz to open a corner for me to score came up double skulls things were not looking promising for the 'zillas. Next turn my ball carrier got sacked, however it was Sataels last turn and he had nothing in score range and the ball bounce fell kindly so Satael marked the ball with a couple of rats and on my last turn of the half I blitz one marker away and a skink manages to pick up the ball in a tackle zone and skitter away for a tunr 8 score to tie the match.

Seond half I setup the same and have the same issue with forming my cage which is quickly swamped and I have to switch to a sideline cage, however in 2 turns I have manouvered the ball carrier into scoring range and though a lot of rats are put around the sideline cage that has a skink guard I am able to clear a path and score on turn 10.

With 6 turns to score and my rather inept defence in the first half this is looking promising for Satael to at least get a draw, however Nuffle then decided to turn a little in my favour and I manage to bog the ball carrier down by a sideline by turn 14 and a blitz by my stand firm saurus comes up with a pow after a reroll to spill the ball and with skinks around to swoop in and steal the ball away to secure the win all I need is a kind bounce and instead the stupid lizard catches the damn pigs bladder! Satael manages to take him down but can't manouver a pickup and on my next turn I can free the markers and make a succesful pickup and my skink makes a dash to get the ball as far away downfield as possible. On the last turn Sataels loner lineman fails his dodge blitz ending the game giving the lizards a hard fought win.

Wjhile my block and dodge dice were less than great I was saved in this match by unusually reliable skink handling as they made catches and pickups in tackle zones with no re-rolls giving me the opportunity to equalise in the first half when I didn't really play well enough to deserve that. Second half I was much more solid but with a little more luck Satael might well have pulled off the equaliser and he played very well. Was a good match and it has been uploaded to BBmanager.

Avaia,

Just putting another call out to try and arrange a game.

Iain,

Just a point of order from your opening post. Seems unfair to score a 0-0 if a game doesn't get played if one coach is trying hard to get that game played...

As per the main league thread, if one side is being rubbish then they will generally forfeit. If it's not clear who's responsible for the holdup then it comes down to a 0-0 draw. In general I find that PMs or Steam messages are a better way of getting someone's attention than simply posting in the thread, it's easy to overlook a post even with your name on it.

In happier news I played Ironwood this evening in what turned out to be a rather lopsided game. He had some terrible luck with GfIs and his rats continued their proud tradition of not being able to throw the ball at all. Meanwhile my Elves pulled out all kinds of bullshit to romp to a convincing victory. My rookie catcher got two full levels out of the game. Both of us managed to kill one of the other team's players but in both cases it was apothed to a non-serious injury (BH for me, MNG for Ironwood).

7 Deadly 2-1 over f13 Catfighters!

A lot of key block and dodge failures allowed my Lizards their two points over Comstar's Amazons. The dice were pretty wonky all around, giving me a lot of great kickoff results but Comstar somewhat better block dice.

7 Deadly kicked off and got somewhat outbashed by the Catfighters, who maneuvered their way to a turn 4 touchdown even though I did a better job of screening my backfield than usual. 7 Deadly tied it up in another four turns after some back-and-forth play left the Catfighters with a too-thinly-spread defensive line. By the half, the Catfighters' numerically weakened team began to hurt them (not Comstar's fault; he had three players missing this game). A quick snap and a touchback started me off in a strong aggressive position, and while all that blodge put up a hefty defense I was able to get a ball-carrying Skink through the line and have him dance around for a couple turns before running it in. The Catfighters came very close to tying it up at the end, but their ball carrier tripped and I recovered. Then I almost gave it up again while trying to score a free SPP on one of my Skinks, but the Amazons couldn't get a grip on the ball before the end of the match.

Fun game overall, although it came too close for comfort with just a few rolls deciding the outcome. Not sure if anyone leveled and there's no permanent damage but I do have a Skink MNG.

I got so utterly buttfucked by Iain, my arse is still bleeding today.  I have no idea how you chaps play against those strong elves;  I just couldn't do anything against them.

What made the raping worse was Iain commenting on how pretty I looked all through the game and then finally, at the end, saying how much he'd enjoyed bending me over.   :ye_gods:

It was the little things, like passing the ball back 100 yards to the guy who was 'low on experience.'  Really, really grinding the point home that there was fuck all I could do about anything and I may as well just give up.

Still, the deaths were fun.

As I said earlier, you were certainly unlucky not to score at least a couple of times. A failed throw and a failed GfI stopped two otherwise sure scores for you. There were a couple of times where you did something weird and gave me an opportunity that I shouldn't have had but mostly it's just that my team can score in a single turn if it gets even half a look at the ball. Your wizard was wasted, I'd have lightning bolted the fuck out of my thrower, the star catcher or one of the Wardancers if I'd been you but that's by the by.

SirT and Lamaros; I'll leave your match open until the deadline on the off-chance that you somehow manage to fix the issue and then award a 0-0 draw on that date. Did you check that all three ports are open for both UDP and TCP traffic? Separate rules for each?

The Camp-town OrcBoyz met Bleating and had a big fight. At some point a ball became involved, but we didn't let that get in the way of a good brawl. 1-1 was the final score, probably could've gone either way, but I think avaia had the upper hand and I was struggling to stop him scoring (least felt that way to me). The difference in rerolls also was a factor I think.

Lack of almost any skills for my team really showed again, though the 2 star players (Morg and the pogo gobbo) helped even things up a little bit.

I started receiving, gave the ball the the pogo gobbo and caged him in. Saw a gap, took it relying on the dodge skill to keep my carrier up. It worked and scored on turn 4.

His turn to receive and my team got smashed to pieces. Utilising a gap, his beastman strolled up the side of the pitch. I took a few risks to make his life a little harder, but no-one had the range to blitz him next to my TD line. Turn 8, he scors.

This is bad for me, he receives and has 8 turns to score. I'd lost my gobbo star player and a black orc by this point, so had no reserves to call upon. However, I managed to keep the pressure on, making him drop the ball a couple of times and stopping him being able to make it down the pitch. The one time he tried, I knocked the ball out of his hands, but couldn't get it myself. he managed to get it back, but had to cage up. I pressured the cage, made him drop the ball again and time was up.

1-1, good game, match has been uploaded and stats are below.

Dwarves and Vampires tie, 2-2. Nuffle helped me escape with this one, without some luck I would have ended the first half down 2-0 instead of 2-1 and wouldn't have been able to equalize. I thought I was going to have a solid chance to get the ball back on defense and get away with a 3-2 win, but 4/5 of Megrim's KOed thralls woke up going into the last possession and I just wasn't able to get through downfield fast enough.

Well-played vampires are pretty hard to play against, especially when you're spacing your guys out because you're paranoid about the wizard your opponent has - I'm really not sure what the best way to play defense against hypnotic gaze is yet. Definitely think I need more practice against vampires.

My plan going in was to just try to get rid of as many thralls as I could, but I just couldn't keep them off the field enough - Megrim had to play around a couple bad blood lusts but I never got quite got it to the position I wanted.

The other big mistake (which is the one that almost cost me the game) was I was too aggressive pushing downfield on my first possession; I left a vampire unmarked in my backfield and so when the ball got knocked loose at one point Megrim was able to pull off some elf-esque bullshit with a long pass to a guy who ran down and handed off to the vampire in the backfield, who scored. I had noone in range, really, I assume he ran it in to stop me from getting a bunch of hits on his guys the next turn; I think in most games that's the right choice but this time I happened to get lucky with a 2 turn score after he got double-skulled on his first move (TD by a troll slayer of all things) and that got me back in it.

Yea, I mostly didn't want to give up free hits if I didn't have to. Plus, the more restarts, the more chances of my Thralls coming back on.

With all that Strength up front you probably could have spread the center out a bit more and given yourself some safety on the wings, instead of getting played around the sides (because lets be honest, I couldn't do much about the line. I could knock those dwarves down if I concentrated on it, but even then I could not move them) and out-run on passes. By the way, on the defensive blitz when you used a Runner to knock down the 5 AG Vamp, I would have used the Strip-Ball Blitzer instead, because statistically it gives better odds at 2dice. Though, you got the POW on the block anyway so it wouldn't have mattered.

All things considered, I really should have done more with the 2-0 lead, but because herp-derp counting squares is for nerds, you got right back into it. I was honestly surprised at the Slayer hand-off, because I was thinking that it was going to be comfortable cruise from then on, since Dwarves don't really come back from being two nil down. Should have paid more attention.

If I'm remembering right the reason I picked that runner to blitz was that your vampire that had the ball had dodge, and that was my tackle runner.

That's what I meant. You had the choice of 2d with Tackle or 2d with Strip Ball, and I think with two Push sides per die its better odds.

Remarkably all of the Hordes games are now played so I've moved that division on already.

SirT and Lamaros; I'll leave your match open until the deadline on the off-chance that you somehow manage to fix the issue and then award a 0-0 draw on that date. Did you check that all three ports are open for both UDP and TCP traffic? Separate rules for each?

Teah. I checked them manually. 6 rules for tcp and the other one. I even put a static NAT route to my gaming computer. No dice.

Can someone who actually runs into Falconeer tell him to actually get on Steam and we'll play. He wasn't on all weekend.

Posting from iPhone, so being brief:

Reborn and I played successfully, 1-4 elves victorious.  Looks like it was SirT's connection as well.  I invited Reborn on my basic Internet connection, and it worked without a hitch.  So who knows, fuck Cyanide.

On the bright side, I can now cancel this $20 a month hotspot service I signed up for with verizon!   :why_so_serious:

Strictly speaking, yes, the ball is more likely to come loose, but then you have a chance of having tackle zones on the ball and the pickup gets harder. I'm not actually sure what the best move was, though.

Fuck... I'm stumped then. I've done everything I can to the router bar deleting the rules and reprogramming them in.

Sorry guys.

I'm surprised that my game with SirT at the start of the season worked without too much trouble earlier in the season, ah well.

Going to have to play it by ear. I know I'll have time on the weekend. What about Thursday night? I take my mother-in-law to the train station in the morning, but will be off the rest of the and chilling at the house after probably 3 or 4 pm CST.

Have to shoot for the weekend then.  It's my toddler's open house for pre-school tomorrow night.

Falc and I played. 1-0 to the CHAOS!

After never winning a game before, I'm on a 3 game streak. Match submitted.

Zellar Dwellarz 2 - Ymiron's G6 Crew 0

This was a hard fought game, much closer than the score might indicate. I kicked off to Luckton's Norse. He had lots of inducements and took a loner merc and the star player troll along with an extra reroll and bloodweiser babes. The star troll had some good moments, including knocking my rat ogre out of the game - in essence, his 6 STR kept my rat ogre completely out of the game as I think I only got 1 block in with the sucker before he got knocked out of the game. I think I would have gone with a wizard instead but he did help luckton.

After getting the first kickoff, he drove the Norse slowly down the field in a good cage with my rats unable to do much of anything to dislodge the ball. But near my goalline, I made a desperation blitz with my dauntless gutter runner through 2 blockers and lo and behold, he put the ball carrier down and out. One pickup by my 1st level passer later, one long ass desperation pass to get it out of my half and a gutter runner crosses the goal line for the first score with one turn left in the half.

The second half starts with the ball coming to me, but a bad choice for a dodging blitz puts me on the back foot. Luckily the ball was deep in my half when this happened, so I was able to recover. A lot of fussing and fighting occurred in my half but I got the ball downfield with only a medium distance pass to a gutter runner in the endzone for the score, but the gutter runner failed the catch. Luckily the ball stayed in the end zone but I was unable to pick it up because his blockers kept harassing me. They got the ball back and tossed it close to midfield but a block by my gutter runner with strip ball freed the ball only to have him pick it up again. With a runner free in my half with the ball, I was in danger of giving up the equalizer but a messed up block by the troll gave me the opening to put a 2D blitz on the ball carrier. The ball was MINE! A little juking, one long pass by Stuart Littlebits to a gutter runner and the 2nd score was made to secure the win.

My linerat with guard is out next game with a gouged eye, but no other lasting injuries occurred. I made over twice as many D6 rolls as he did, and it looks like neither one of us really stunk it up overall (just badly timed fuckups). Of note was my dauntless gutter runner succeeded with all 3 dauntless rolls. Also of note was his armor rolls - he only succeeded 42% of the time to my 44% in an area he really should have been able to hurt me. His block dice, though beating me at 49% to 37%, really fucked him as he had 5 turnovers on block dice to my 1 (he made a lot more blocks with frenzy of course - 117 to 40).

2-game winning streak! I'm coming back!
