Well, it's not like you needed to sleep soundly anyway, right? (http://discovermagazine.com/2012/jun/03-hidden-epidemic-tapeworms-in-the-brain/article_view?b_start:int=0&-C=)

Did you know that some people advocate useing tapeworm larvae as a diet pill. I guess this is called a side effect.

Though I always find such articles interesting, in that our pharmacology has become so precise that we can do something about things like this.

Kind of makes me sad that I'm not better in chemistry/math and couldn't reasonably go into something like immunology or genetics or oncology. I'll never understand how a simple oral pill can target something so specifically - how the heck do you even figure that stuff out?  :oh_i_see:

So if you have a tapeworm, and it eats up the excess food that you consume, how does that work for weight loss?  Wouldn't the tapeworm just get fat inside you, balancing out exactly with your negative consumption of calories?

I mean, I know it's bullshit, I just wonder what the hell they are thinking it is doing for them.  Aside from probably making them sick and definitely being disgusting.

Different caloric intakes.  What it doesn't digest, you don't either since it bypasses most of your digestive tract.  Let go long enough though and it will distend your organs and cause malnutrition.

The theory is that it eats a lot more in the first 21 days as its growing and turning into a mature tapeworm so its eating EVERYTHING, so you can eat what you like. So at day 20 you swallow a pill to kill it before it starts producing larvae and then you can start again.

Of course because its also absorbing all the vitamins you need you will also look like a plague victim.

I can't point at a website for this as its something I just heard a while back.

Yes. And they don't always come all the way out on their own. I've had to pull them out of dog anuses before when they've partially pooped them out and couldn't finish the job. They look almost exactly like a piece of fettucini.
