What do you all think about me doing the donation drive on Kickstarter, with overfunding goals like custom forums, titles, interviews with developers, etc.

I mean, why the fuck not, right? We always "hit" the goal within a few bucks. Might as well make a grind out of it.

Why would we want to punish the people who donate?  People who donate can no longer see the politics forum makes more sense.

I like this idea in principle, but I seem to remember one ex-politics poster going all 'I pay for your server!11!' towards the end. A forum with access only for donators might create some misguided sense of entitlement - something that the original 'your donation buys you nothing!' premise was a happy retort against. Goals which benefit everyone are good, and I can't really see any harm in titles.

This is different because it forces the jihadists to pony up if they want to continue.  And in that case everyone would be able to get all "I pay for your server" so it would even out.

Just keep it open long enough for me to donate this year. Last two years it has closed before I was able to put in a donation because I had to wait on cash flow.

Nothing wrong with saying that the politics forum is a shit heap.  Everyone knows it. 

Do you have a list of easily administered features in mind for the bidding?  I personally wouldn't want to see you have to do a bunch more work if you're going to get the same people giving money.  Because I suppose that would be the point-  to try and get other folks that don't typically give money to give money?  I suppose I like the kickstarter thing as a gimmick but wouldn't recommend it to you unless you think you'll see some sort of nice results.

If we donate, will there be crafting?

We should get to rename subforums with the appropriate donation.

I would rather just donate.  Seeing extra glowy stuff appear on payment would be annoying.  Then you get into the entitlement nonsense..

I like the kickstarter idea.  Overfunding goals should be things that benefit/entertain everyone rather than giving special perks to individual donators IMO.
