Title: Binary Domain: Revenge solves Everything Post by: rk47 on April 28, 2012, 09:43:09 PM Overflowing with cheese. I love it. Goddamn. Now I want a sequel so bad.
Edited Intro Sequence dripping with cheese and bacon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ss_KluXQSDw Title: Re: Binary Domain: Revenge solves Everything Post by: jakonovski on April 29, 2012, 03:04:13 AM This game did not disappoint, it's one of the few truly plot driven shooters around. I don't remember the last time I've lusted after cutscenes. And the shooty bits are excellent too, almost Vanquish level.
Title: Re: Binary Domain: Revenge solves Everything Post by: rk47 on April 29, 2012, 03:56:04 AM I still want a PC port for Vanquish. Goddamn that game's hyper realistic modern warfare puts most cover shooter to same, but yeah, BD has cultural diversity in spades as well as political correctness.

Not in the "What? Only 2 million units!? We want 3 mill!" like Bulletstorm; it pretty much bombed.
If you ever want to see the property again or something like I'd recommend picking up the PC version. I might do that considering the recommendations it's been given. Title: Re: Binary Domain: Revenge solves Everything Post by: tgr on April 29, 2012, 08:41:37 AM I wasn't going to even consider buying it because it looked like a standard 3rd person console shooter, since they have absolutely no gameplay video up. They really should fix that.
As to the game itself, I decided to fire up the demo; not entirely to my liking, but is the story really good enough to warrant that I ignore my loathing for the controls? Title: Re: Binary Domain: Revenge solves Everything Post by: jakonovski on April 29, 2012, 09:14:58 AM I haven't finished the game yet, but it is indeed the promised land of cheese. Great characters. The plot is good so far, but a lot depends on if it delivers in the end.

Title: Re: Binary Domain: Revenge solves Everything Post by: cironian on April 30, 2012, 08:06:13 AM Demo seemed promising, too bad the Mouse+Keyboard port is atrocious. I have to quit the game entirely to adjust mouse sensitivity then sit through an unskippable cutscene again before I can see how it really works? :uhrr:
Maybe I'll take another look if I get my hands on a PC gamepad. Title: Re: Binary Domain: Revenge solves Everything Post by: rk47 on April 30, 2012, 08:37:51 AM Need more marketing.
I want this game to succeed. Badly. http://youtu.be/q2Xz_fBK1l8 Title: Re: Binary Domain: Revenge solves Everything Post by: Yegolev on April 30, 2012, 11:14:27 AM Is it as funny without the edits? I think I'm having my expectations set too high.

Used wired 360 controller. Cheap and a lot of games support it out of the box. You can grab this game at Green Man Gaming (http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/ca/en/pc/promo/special-preorders/) and get 20% off with the promo code GMG20-PREOR-PROMO. Promo code works even though the game is out now, I used it about 5 minutes ago. All i did was add the America Fuck Yeah at some parts. Even without it, you can feel it playing on the background. Another forum goer posted that he put a stereo on remote to play that track when some action is about to happen. This game is really best enjoyed as what it is, a super cheesy, back to back action. The downtime between combat is mostly around 5-10 minutes tops of exposition. I know another player who started another playthrough a day right after he finished the first one just to see how other squadmates interact with the protagonists. It won't appeal to everyone, but I really hope they don't trash this IP so easily. It's got definite potential. :drill: Title: Re: Binary Domain: Revenge solves Everything Post by: Kail on April 30, 2012, 01:59:51 PM Need more marketing. I want this game to succeed. Badly. I suspect that ship has sailed, SEGA got reamed last quarter and just went through a massive downsizing ("re-focusing on core IPs") this month. Plus, I can't recall ever hearing of a AAA console game being saved by PC sales, usually they sell way worse and it's only because they're so cheap to make these days that so many games are ported, not because they're huge moneymakers. I don't remember the last time I've lusted after cutscenes. And the shooty bits are excellent too, almost Vanquish level. I see similarities to Vanquish for cheese and robots, but the shooting? From the demo I thought Binary Domain was closer to the slower cover shooting of Gears than Vanquish's frantic pace with minimal cover (which I greatly prefer). Title: Re: Binary Domain: Revenge solves Everything Post by: jakonovski on April 30, 2012, 03:38:01 PM Holy fuck I beat the game and the story paid off so well! I was shouting and pumping my fist, or would've if the SO didn't sit right next to me. Loved this game,.everyone should play it!
Re: comparisons to Vanquish, the game is slower and more cover based, but it's got the same joy of playing, for lack of a better word. The game mechanics are also very consistent throughout the game, so what you learn will stay valid even in boss fights. Which are all great, I can't believe some idiot reviewers panned them. Title: Re: Binary Domain: Revenge solves Everything Post by: Teleku on April 30, 2012, 06:31:57 PM Hrm, that intro video was pretty top notch, and the reviews here are tempting. Still, not sure if I can throw out $40 for another game when I have so many still left over from the Chistmas sale to get through. Want to support good games, but may have to wait till this one hits a steam sale (which probably shouldn't be to long since its not an A lister).

A friend said it's "wikipedia says there was criticism against it being "a glorified rental service" So he's kinda iffy on buying it on GMG. Can someone clarify if the key can be activated on steam? Title: Re: Binary Domain: Revenge solves Everything Post by: Zetor on April 30, 2012, 09:51:36 PM I can vouch for GMG -- I bought DX:HR and Skyrim through them, and I could activate both games on steam without problems. In Skyrim's case it was actually better, since the English version was unavailable through Steam normally due to a fuckstupid region lock / forced localization scheme Bethesda has arranged for Eastern Europe -- but the GMG copy worked / works fine.
BTW, I read the radicalthon... all I can say is 'proceed'. :awesome_for_real: Title: Re: Binary Domain: Revenge solves Everything Post by: NiX on May 01, 2012, 06:02:02 AM How reliable is GMG? If it says "Third Party DRM: Steam" you'll be sent a Steam code to redeem. I've bought quite a bit from them and never had an issue. Title: Re: Binary Domain: Revenge solves Everything Post by: Falconeer on June 12, 2012, 03:13:30 PM I just picked up the demo after reading the rk47's Radicalthon here on f13 (http://forums.f13.net/index.php?topic=22128.0) and I must say, this looks and plays awesome. I am impressed, was totally not expecting anything like this. One question though, the demo seems to start at a random point. Is that actually the beginning of the game or they repackaged a random level just for the demo in order to show you some action?
Seriously considering buying it, not even waiting for a Steam sale. Title: Re: Binary Domain: Revenge solves Everything Post by: rk47 on June 12, 2012, 08:55:10 PM They picked one mid game mission IIRC and one first chapter mission.
I never played the demo but that's what a friend told me. Title: Re: Binary Domain: Revenge solves Everything Post by: Falconeer on June 16, 2012, 03:22:28 AM I can't stress enough how much I'm liking this game, but I have to say that the mouse sensitivity is driving me crazy. I've tried fine tuning it from the configuration panel (outside of the game) but it's never perfect. It also seems to differ greatly, to the point of unplayability, if I am using a wireless mouse instead of a cable one. Are there known trick, tips or workaround to make it work properly? Seriously, it works "almost decently" on my desktop, but aiming is totally screwed on my laptop and that's killing part of the fun.
