Case of man killing meat inspectors faces automatic appeal

Wednesday, February 16, 2005 Posted: 2:05 PM EST (1905 GMT)

OAKLAND, California (AP) -- A sausage factory owner was sentenced to death Tuesday for killing three meat inspectors nearly five years ago.

Stuart Alexander, 43, the self-proclaimed "sausage king," was convicted in October of three counts of first-degree murder for the 2000 shooting deaths of two federal inspectors and one state inspector at his factory in San Leandro.

A jury recommended December 14 that he be put to death, and an Alameda County judge upheld the sentence. The case will be automatically appealed to the state Supreme Court.

Alexander's public defenders had argued that their client was driven to kill after months of harassment by the inspectors, and the death penalty wasn't intended for "emotion driven killings."

Prosecutors argued that Alexander hatched a "diabolical plan" to kill the inspectors, get away with it by pleading insanity, then write a book or movie to profit and gain notoriety from the crime.

The murders were captured on the factory's surveillance videotape, which was shown to jurors during the five-month trial.

After Alexander killed the three inspectors, he fired at and chased a fourth inspector for several blocks from the Santos Linguisa Factory.

The moral of the story is: If you're going to kill some people in your own building, remember to turn off the fucking security cameras first.

Between mothers who chop off their child's arms and kids dismembering their grandparents, the sausage king putting his victims into the grinder would have seemed the logical conclusion.

"Can you describe Abe Froman?"
"He's wearing a leather jacket. White t-shirt. And is devilishly handsome."

Beuller... Beuller... Beuller...

Edit: Damn you Shockeye, stole my idea....

BTW, where did you get your fix from? Took me forever to find something accurate. I kept coming up with the pre-production script.

I "got it" when I first saw the thread, but I thought actually trying to be cool and point out what the thread title referred to would actually be uncool.

Not posting this would have made you even more cool.

I thought it would be cool to say "Abe Froman?  I thought he was from Chicago," thereby demonstrating that I got it without being overly obvious to those who didn't get it that I was demonstrating my own coolness.  But after reading farther down in the thread I realize that posting that would just be really lame.  Damn.

If I post about how cool I am to have not posted something that I thought would have made me look cool, does it mean that I am now cool for having avoided posting said uncool post and have instead made a cool meta-post? Or does proclaiming one's coolness about how not posting an uncool post in any fashion merit as much dignity as a certain 1970's TV sitcom character vaulting into the air over a predatory, finned elasmobranch?

I don't know, but I just saw what appears to be a completely random image.  You know what that usually means.

...and hey, the topic is back to sausage!  Go me.

‘Sausage king’ killer dies in prison (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10618237/)

Man on death row for killing meat inspectors found dead at San Quentin

Updated: 3:20 p.m. ET Dec. 27, 2005

SAN FRANCISCO - Self-proclaimed “sausage king” Stuart Alexander died Tuesday at San Quentin Prison while on death row for killing three meat inspectors.

Alexander, 44, was under a suicide watch at the time. The cause of death was not immediately known, but Sgt. Eric Messick said there were no signs of suicide or foul play. An autopsy was planned.

Messick said Alexander’s mental health had deteriorated after he was sentenced to death in February for the 2000 shooting deaths at his factory in San Leandro.

The slayings were captured on the factory’s surveillance videotape, which was shown to the jury at the trial.

Alexander’s lawyers contended that he snapped and killed the inspectors after months of harassment. They argued for a voluntary manslaughter conviction.

He had been cited repeatedly for problems at his factory, with inspectors ordering him to raise the cooking temperature of his meat.

Yeah, if I was under the death penalty, I'd like something like that to happen to me.

Just so it looked like God told those with a hard-on for my death to fuck off.

2000 shooting deaths

I completely misread that at first.
