Are 4th edition cards finally worth something?  I remember when I got in, that was the edition that was out (and what I got a bunch of) but none of them seemed to gain any value unlike all the alpha/beta/revised editions before it.

I should really get my beta cards valued. I'm sure the basic lands aren't worth shit, but hmm....I have very few expansion cards, so 90% of my cards are unlimited or older. I have lots of black borders is all I'm sayin'.

They're not only worth nothing (4th edition), but there's nothing of note in the entire set, hence why I am having Paelos check. I don't actually care about the value of something if I need it. I do stupid things like riffle shuffle my Imperial Recruiters and foil 7th Edition Birds. I'll riffle shuffle a $4,000 deck, I don't care. 4th edition is just a unique snowflake in that I can't even trade any of it away if I wanted.

Initially it was a temp ban for fucking up the Battleship thread and then it was a perma-ban when he decided to nuke the bridges.

Basic islands from beta can be worth a few bucks....  $4 an island per Anycraze.  If you want to check values, there are a few sites to do it at (anycraze.com or starcitygames.com, or Schild probably has a better link as he's an active trader).  Beta anything has some value as it is demanded by the crazy collector types.

Some sites/stores buy collections.  The problem is that you'll see a fraction of your value unless you piece it out yourself, or it's BIG stuff like Power Nine.  DON'T EVEN THINK OF LETTING YOUR KID/S PLAY WITH THEM IF THEY GET INTO CCGS.  I've seen more old cards get trashed, lost, or traded away for nothing than I care to comment on.

That being said, I've been sending my old stuff/non-nostalgia stuff to Schild as I'd rather it went to a good home then sat in my closet waiting for the day my water heater explodes or something.


On the other things:

I was kind of surprised that WUA came back after the first time he was chased away by the name change to "WindUpNutsack", but he was a solid and constructive poster for a while after his return.  I always get worried when noticeably worse behaved posters go away, as I can be an asshole for no particular reason for periods of time.

Honestly, next time make it a ban for dollars as a server fund-raiser.  I suggested it with Geldon, and I still think it's a good idea.

Now Broughden just needs to be banned and all will be right in the world.

No, just a random IP. Both Sand and Broughden had one. Or they were randomizing it, whatever. Anyway, Sand posted a picture of his dog. MuffinMan connected the dots back to a picture of Broughden's dog via Facebook.

I have some old Magic cards, no clue what edition they are.  Got them from a GenCon ages ago.  I'd be willing to hand them off to someone else (Schild) if only to get them off my bookshelf.  They're probably completely worthless and/or a series that is no longer used.  I'll look when I get home tonight, just for giggles.

I am rather surprised to hear that you've proven the Broughden/Sand connection.  I disliked Broughden as much as the next guy, but Sand didn't bother me all that much.  The reason I ultimately decided they couldn't be the same person was because I couldn't imagine Broughden being able to ever shut up about his (questionable) military and police experience.  Huh.  Good work on his part, I guess.

When I started posting, Boog was a mod at Waterthread.  I never minded Bruce that much.  He really wasn't more annoying than plenty of other posters towards the end, right up until he would get trolled into a glorious overreaction.  Luckily, the old Waterthread boards would blow up every six months and everyone would get a clean slate.

I have more of an issue with Mediocre/Geldon who literally will shit up anything into their own private blog.

I agree, I found WUA funny as hell and appreciated his work in the radicalthon section. OTOH, Sand seemed a bit of a conceited prick at times, but nothing too obvnoxious. I wasn't really here much before when he was Broughden though so I don't know that story

There's a few lines you can't cross here.  Very few. I don't care if you're one of the beloved members that has been here from the very start.  You cross it, you're gone.

He was also a gigantic troll.  He made more contributions than sinij, for sure, but a troll still.  If you have the impression that perhaps the entire mod staff sees you as a troll, you're probably a bad day away from going away forever.

I think the last time I spoke to schild before the ban I mentioned that there was a 70% chance Sand is Broughden.   :awesome_for_real:   I thought this for a long time, but the whole ex-NY cop to Kentucky business man with adult diapers thing kept some doubt alive in my head.

Before he disappeared as Broughden, he'd made a big deal out of mentioning  he was opening an Outfitter's shop in Louisville and his political connections there.  Maybe being more local to that city then the rest of you I was the only one whose mind that stuck in, but that's why I always figured it was him, despite the "no it's not" denials.  /shrug

The tone of his politics posts in recent times really were textbook broughden, so much so that I stopped even reading anything that had his stupid avatar on them.

This is the longest running site by a long long way now, I think the only forum I have ever been banned from was the Dawn forums, though I'm sure I've sailed real close to the edge a couple of times here.  We used to have new forums every few months so you'd keep seeing old faces reappear.

It's a pity Lum took his new forums down as the whole vibe of too many "all star players" made for awkward conversations.

Not sure where my pin is, but apparently I have the DAoC box plus an assortment of others that have survived the moves.  Just a couple days ago I dug out the Daggerfall box to show my wife the map of Tamriel.

I'm not big on saving things like that but for some reason I still have have the original EverQuest map.

I ended up junking a bunch of stuff in 2009 when I moved out. I only took whatever I could fit in my car (Mustang) at the time. A lot of stuff got tossed or given away, like a TV I didn't need or my giant Ace Combat flightsticks, along with most of my gaming memorabilia (maps, etc).

I don't like gaming industry failures continuing to get jobs based on their resume. You know, there are Presidents and CEOs out there who haven't a single iota of positive use to the industry? They got there by failing upwards. The problem is pandemic in gaming.

Fun statistical fact: The majority of problems in the western industry can be traced directly back to 80s-90s EA and Origin in the 90s. I don't care how precious UO is to everyone here. Those studios are a stifling plague on all our houses.

I'd say that Steam, and their increasing indie-friendlyness is starting to change that and tip the sides back to non-corporate.  Sure, AAA titles aren't coming out of them due to costs, but you can get extremely well done games for $10 now that compliments gaps between good AAA titles.

Also Steam must be making killing on the Long Tail which a physical store can't compete and is very indie friendly.

Failing upwards works sometimes, especially if you fail in a glorious manner, shadowbane->wizards101 comes to mind.

Shadowbane and Wizards101 are barely the same industry. I'm not talking about fringe companies, I'm talking about companies that continually try to churn out hit after hit or AAA MMO after AAA MMO.

If ALL the ex EA and OSI employees went to social/fringe gaming, it'd be a blessing to the industry. Thankfully we're halfway there. Unfortunately, I see them all coming back from social gaming within the decade, where they will occupy senior positions again, slowing progress  once more because they learned exactly nothing in their time away.
