Title: The Three Stooges
Post by: MuffinMan on December 13, 2011, 06:31:05 PM
The trailer. Watch if you dare. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFeYUNHtUG0)

Ugh, this is one of the things for me that they really shouldn't tarnish. I love the Stooges.

Just realized there's already a thread for this from a couple years ago. Feel free to merge, Merusk wins once more.

They showed the best part of the movie in the trailer -- Kate Upton in her nun swimsuit

The Stooges were like the cut rate lame comedy team of their time, so it isn't like this is really a big step back for their legacy.

You shut your dirty whore mouth.

The Stooges are great slapstick comedy, and that trailer shows why they shouldn't be fucked with. Taking the Stooges out of the 30's but not updating the gags at all just looks utterly stupid.

Yeah, but few times I saw Stooges reruns after school growing up also looked utterly stupid.  So I guess they got it right!  :why_so_serious:

Can anyone confirm that that was the actual Snookie (from Jersy Shore) getting a facepoke near the end there?  Cause if so, I will support this movie simply on the basis of doing bodily harm to the JS cast.

I cannot be silenced! They're put to utter shame by the Marx Brothers and Laurel & Hardy IMO.

IMHO no one can touch the Marx Brothers...they were too dynamic. And I'd include Abbott and Costello as well.

The problem I have with this is that the Three Stooges already exist. It's like making a new band and calling it Led Zeppelin.

I love Hollywood's need to shit on old IP rather than making an original new slapstick movie. I could watch the Stooges for hours, I think it will lose a lot in our oddly politically correct yet utterly lowbrow era.

That said, the kid playing Curly is funny, and if that's the writer from Conan playing Larry it might not be too horrible. Don't recognize Moe and he looks kinda douchey, but I guess that fits.

Fiancee hates when they run a Stooge marathon, DVR gets a solid block of them. To be fair, ditto Marx Bros/Laurel and Hardy/Chaplin/Abbot and Costello/etc. And let's not forget John Barrymore whilst strolling nostalgia lane; his vacillation between slapstick and horror in Svengali is one of the best things ever filmed.

Well yeah, but fuck. We're talking the goddamn Marx Bros. here. Groucho Marx was just far and away one of the most incredible comedic geniuses ever. I don't really consider them the same type of slapstick either. Stooges were low brow and never aspired to be anything but while the Marx Bros. had subtlety that only Chaplin even attempted.

I got a couple of chuckles out of the trailer, but that's definitely a rental.  To be fair, I almost never see comedies in the theater.

Stooges updated to modern times doesn't bother me; not exactly a Shakespearean legacy there.
