That sucks, although I have to say, I've never read any of her books.

She was really nice and encouraging when I met her 3-4 years back.  Sad to hear.

She wrote some damn fine novels that my teenaged self loved.  They don't stand up as well when you're older but I still enjoy rereading 'em.

Yeah, a lot of adolescent memories here. RIP.

The very late books eventually end up being rather boring due to lack of any kind of conflict, but yeah, extremely important author in the genre. RIP.

Loved the early books. Kind of wish she hadn't decided to just churn out crap later on to give her kid a nest egg, but gotta do what you gotta do. Imaginative writer, at any rate.

When I was younger and had finished all the Dragonlance stuff, I jumped over to it. It paled in comparison but I look back on it fairly fondly. Eighty five is a good run though.

Can Stephanie Meyer be next? Please?

Shame, but as Schild said, it's a good run which left an imprint.

I read those books as a tween, I enjoyed them very much.  Sorry to hear she has passed.

Heard this last night.  :cry2:

I still periodically reread my Pern books, even if some of them don't stand the test of time too well, a few are still outstanding.

I remember reading a lot of her books way back in the day.  Like someone said, they don't stand up well over time but they certainly held my imagination for many years.  Sad to see such a fixture go down, but she had an amazing run.

For a second I thought she was the one who never finished the Exiles books, but then I remembered that was Melanie Rawn.  (No idea why that needed saying).

RIP Good Lady.

Really, the first two main Pern books hold up, the first two Harper books are fantastic for any teen feeling persecuted, the Ship Who Sang is still a great book, and even Decision at Doona is kind of good. She also wrote a weird rape fantasy short story that I remember being in the middle of a bunch otherwise pretty vanilla stuff including a Pern-series short about a kid who gets to be a dragonrider even though he's bullied. After that it all became pretty fanfic at best.
