Looks like the Buy More is pressing it's offensive to get a piece of GameStop's pie.

I recently bought some pre-owned games from Best Buy since I had rewards from them that were about to expire.  Their pre-owned selection kinda sucks at the moment (at least at the store I went to) and their pre-owned prices are sometimes double what you can get them for at Amazon.  This is only offset though because they were running a (permanent?) promotion that if you buy 2 you get 25% off pre-owned.

Though looking through their site, the prices they pay for trade-ins are pretty competitive with Amazon.

Interesting, so this is Best Buy's plan to compete with online retailers?

No, this is their plan to compete with Gamestop, who has been living off the almost free money from trade-ins for years.

It's one of their strategies for sure.  The other is downsizing their stores and moving more of their inventory to online and ship-to-store sales.  Gone are the days of the building mammoth-sized Buy Mores that try to cram everything they can in to the ceiling with stock.  The new strategy is to make smaller, specialized stores, a la GameStop-sized.  While every store will have the ability to order anything you want and have it shipped to the store for pick-up or home directly, the stores will specialize in something particular that they've identified as exploitable in the area.

We're not just talking Best Buy Game and Best Buy Mobile stores popping up, but Best Buy Music, Best Buy Appliances, Best Buy Car Audio, and so on.
