Title: First 'chatbot' conversation ends in argument Post by: Arthur_Parker on September 09, 2011, 02:31:08 AM First 'chatbot' conversation ends in argument (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-14843549)
Quote Artificial intelligence robots have held a conversation with one another for the first time with surprising and surreal results. Two graduate PhD students at Cornell University gave voices and 2D avatars to a pair of online "chatbots", which they named Alan and Sruthi. Jason Yosinski and Igor Labutov explained to BBC News what happened when they left the robots to converse and why they were "stunned" at the results. Check the video out. Title: Re: First 'chatbot' conversation ends in argument Post by: Ironwood on September 09, 2011, 03:28:56 AM And again I came to post this. DAMN YOU. Title: Re: First 'chatbot' conversation ends in argument Post by: Merusk on September 09, 2011, 09:41:00 AM When I first heard this story I was surprised it took someone this long to do it. I'd figured it would have been one of the first things someone with more tech experience than I maintain would have done with Cleverbot.
Title: Re: First 'chatbot' conversation ends in argument Post by: Engels on September 09, 2011, 09:43:52 AM tbh, I have memories of similar antics back in the late 90s, albeit without the fairly funny results.

Are animated characters robots all of a sudden? Or have they always been? I'm confused. Also, chatbots talking with chatbots is nothing new. I don't get why this is news.

Title: Re: First 'chatbot' conversation ends in argument Post by: Krakrok on September 13, 2011, 07:13:33 PM We plugged a chat bot into our twitter account. It argues with random people.
Title: Re: First 'chatbot' conversation ends in argument Post by: Jherad on September 13, 2011, 07:50:00 PM Take two computers, give them software simulating human conversation and avatars, put them together, and you get two people talking crap and being dicks to each other.
We're doomed as a species. Title: Re: First 'chatbot' conversation ends in argument Post by: sinij on September 14, 2011, 07:18:59 AM No we are not, it would be much more damning if two bots immediately agreed, much unlike humans.
Title: Re: First 'chatbot' conversation ends in argument Post by: Sir T on September 14, 2011, 12:18:05 PM iT's not STRICTLY true that this was the first chatbot conversation. A few years ago, as part of the drive to make bots seem more lifelike, they were programed to respond to certain phrases. So if you said "hi" they would say hi back. Of course the flaw in this was that if one bot heard another bot say hi it would say hi back. So people would come into local, say Hi and local would explode with bots saying hi to one another over and over.
