Looks like it is weaving plots from three plots together (Secret of the Unicorn, Red Rackham's Treasure, The Crab with the Golden Claws) which I think is a smart move, since on their own each book would probably be a bit too short for a feature-length movie. I like the casting, and the graphic style, it seems pretty faithful on the face of it.

Now if only Spielberg sets his eyes on Asterix and Obelix next.

They make Haddock look like a lovable drunk, rather than a nutso wanker, but I guess that is to be expected.  :grin:

Wow, I have never heard of these Tintin comics, but that trailer looked really good. And I usually don't go in for those creepy uncanny valley CGI movies.

It pushes considerably further towards the cartoonish than Zemeckis' projects did. Especially the characters' body proportions.

Maybe it is more of a Euro thing, but I'm surprised that you haven't heard of Tintin.

A certain degree of photorealistic flirting-with-the-uncanny-valley is actually aesthetically appropriate to Tintin: Herge's art style was meticulously based on observation and realism. Only the main characters (Tintin most particularly) are cartoony to a significant extent.

It is a weird cultural divide. Most European kids are raised on Tintin. Most American kids have never heard of him.

Most Australians of my age know Tintin quite well; school libraries contained near full sets of Tintin and Asterix books.

Wasn't a fan of the Tintin cartoon though.

I read every single one of the Tintin books as a kid.  At least every single one my uncle owned, which was a lot.  Not sure yet about the CGI visual style, but I think I like it better than the cartoon series.

My elementary school library (in Piedmont CA) was full of all of them (and Asterix) and I read them all in about 2nd grade or so.

I never heard of it until HBO ran some cartoons.

Yeah, I only know of Tintin and Astrix from going to Europe and having Euro friends in college who wont stfu about it.  I had never heard of either before then.

They were in various libraries when I was a kid, circa early 90s. You guys spent most of your childhood in a library, right. Right?

Yes, though I read Asterix and Tintin in my local bookstore. I also owned the two moon Tintins (Destination and Explorers) but I'm not sure what happened to those.
