Title: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: DraconianOne on June 20, 2011, 08:25:41 AM So a few hours after tweeting a picture of him and some buddies drinking (presumably), Ryan Dunn, famous for sticking a toy car up his arse, dies in a flaming car wreck after wrapping his Porsche around a tree.
NBC News (http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/Jackass-Star-Ryan-Dunn-Dies-in-Car-Accident-124184189.html) shows what's left the car. (Hint: not much.) Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: Paelos on June 20, 2011, 08:32:05 AM Drinking and driving don't mix.
Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: Polysorbate80 on June 20, 2011, 08:41:00 AM Drinking and driving don't mix. Perhaps he was merely trying to insert the Porsche into his rectum? Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: Sky on June 20, 2011, 08:53:11 AM Most of my younger friends thought I looked like him. I used to drink and drive A LOT back in the day, and was lucky enough until I got smarter. Didn't drive a porsche, though...
Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: Lantyssa on June 20, 2011, 10:52:07 AM Was a hoax. What a jackass.

Edit: I take that back....it's still running. Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: Lantyssa on June 20, 2011, 11:31:32 AM May have been someone doing a fake picture.
Vertigo and trying to do five things at once led to me not analyzing it. Given I didn't know who he was, and it was the first news I saw on the subject, things didn't click. Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: Evildrider on June 20, 2011, 02:10:16 PM Yeah this isn't looking fake, especially when they have an interview with April and Phil Margera talking about it.
If so this really sucks, I actually just watched Jackass 3.5 last night. Dunn was probably my favorite out of the Jackass crew as well. Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: Trippy on June 20, 2011, 02:12:10 PM Who the fuck cares about Dunn -- he was a fucking idiot. Sadly he killed his passenger too, who hasn't been identified yet.

Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: Evildrider on June 20, 2011, 02:30:26 PM My dad had a Porsche and those things aren't exactly made to take impacts very well. Dunn was going 110 and lost control into the woods and then the car caught fire. That doesn't leave much to look at.

Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: Azazel on June 20, 2011, 04:12:16 PM Not altogether unsurprising that one of that crew has died young from stupidity/recklessness. I always thought that Stave-O would be the first to go, but there's something to be said about alchohol, and travelling around at excessively high speeds in a metal box...
Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: Paelos on June 20, 2011, 04:28:03 PM I always figured it would be rectal trauma that would get him.

Wow... I really don't care two ways about Ebert, but I find the fact that these people who have prided themselves out of doing stupid, self-injurious behavior are now so appalled by a remark by a movie critic. I don't want to take away from the tragedy in any way, but really...this runs kinda parallel with that Tosh bit about hardcore gangsta rappers whining about music sharing being stealing. Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: Nebu on June 21, 2011, 07:54:29 AM Who gives a shit about what Roger Ebert thinks? I mean really...

Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: Mrbloodworth on June 21, 2011, 08:22:19 AM Ebert said the same things as Paelos did. I don't see the issue.
Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: Lantyssa on June 21, 2011, 08:57:24 AM It's a shame it wasn't only the driver, but anyone that drinks and drives can die in a car fire for all I care.

This. I liked the Jackass shenanigans as much as the next guy but the fuckhead got in a super-fast car with someone, was clearly drinking beforehand and instead of having the decency to only kill HIMSELF with stupidity, managed to take someone else with him, albeit someone not smart enough to take this dude's keys from him before he got in the car. Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: ghost on June 21, 2011, 09:33:29 AM Who gives a shit about what Roger Ebert thinks? I mean really... Well, in this case he's completely correct. Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: Paelos on June 21, 2011, 09:35:46 AM Yes, if you do something stupid and die, god forbid someone tries to point out a life lesson to others. Tell you what, if I end up dead because I try to jump Springfield Gorge, feel free to tweet that skateboards and canyons don't mix.
HAVE THEY NO DECENCY?!?! Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: NowhereMan on June 21, 2011, 10:58:00 AM There are some people I can understand getting uppity after someone makes a somewhat poor taste joke/comment after a friend's death. The Jackass guys doing so however just makes me actually feel good that Ebert made the comment. He's not hurting Dunn anymore than Dunn has managed to harm himself and one other, so all he's doing is outrage a bunch of guys that have made themselves famous doing things that amuse many and outrage some and I doubt they felt too bad about the fact there were lots of people who were outraged at their shenanigans.
Man using shenanigans in that context makes me feel all :geezer: Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: Slyfeind on June 21, 2011, 11:16:09 AM I haven't seen Ebert's full head since he lost his jaw. Holy crap he looks freakish.
Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: MuffinMan on June 21, 2011, 11:17:38 AM Ebert just can't seem to keep his mouth shut.

That may help. Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: Soln on June 23, 2011, 02:18:22 PM never understood why Ebert didn't have the good grace to retire. He's one "expert" I got tired of hearing about years ago. Need for money or ego is keeping him going I guess.

He's one "expert" I got tired of hearing about years ago. Need for money or ego is keeping him going I guess. Ego is my bet as in "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Siskel has his name before mine!!! I won a Pulitzer mine should've been first!!!!!!!!!!!!! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!" (Yes he really did used to bitch and moan about that constantly).Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: Soln on June 24, 2011, 09:56:41 AM Although I don't always agree with them, I still find his reviews to be much better than most. Agreed. Ebert was one of those film critics back in the '80's or '90's that I knew if he disliked a movie, than I would certainly. He was very reliable. But over time what he recommended or judged "good" increasingly seemed mediocre. Or just weird. For instance, his fawning over whatshername for whatever her bad film was... was just creepy. Apologies I cant remember either, blocked them out. For me, I think Ebert became too much a celebrity and wasn't critical enough, or was just too inconsistent between reviews to bear anymore. And reaching out to opine on things like Games as Non-Art was just stupid [which is the point of this thread....] Maybe this is a problem with movie reviewers; namely, the more popular they become and chummy with the media and film stars, the more they start to flake. In the last few years I found the same arc with Mark Kermode. Anyways, YMMV etc. Title: Re: Ryan "Jackass" Dunn dies in a car wreck Post by: Yegolev on June 25, 2011, 09:13:50 PM I've certainly become less reliable as my popularity rises.
