Title: Looking for a home server Post by: Train Wreck on February 08, 2005, 10:00:44 PM Getting ready to log into WoW for the first time. Any thoughts on which server I should join?
Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: schild on February 08, 2005, 10:05:40 PM One that isn't down.
Earthen Ring seems to have been a good choice. Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Viin on February 08, 2005, 10:08:58 PM ArrPee servers suck. I'd say pick a low pop PvP server (like Nathrezim).
But if you want to play with folks here, everyone seems to have a char on Earthen Ring - though it only seems to be a few peoples main characters. Oh, and I think you can have 6 - 8 characters per server.. just know that on a PvP server you aren't allowed to have both Horde and Alliance characters. Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Train Wreck on February 08, 2005, 10:15:58 PM I created a human warrior named Garbarge on Earthen Ring.
Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Rasix on February 08, 2005, 11:16:46 PM Wrong side, Dr. Train Wreck.
Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Triforcer on February 08, 2005, 11:20:14 PM Archimonde. We are unbelievably l33t and cool and hardcore. And if you are only comfortable pvping people 35 levels lower than you, we have a perfect zone for you at lvl 60...its called "Hillsbrad".
Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Signe on February 09, 2005, 06:15:13 AM Ten characters per server, 50 characters overall. Viin is obviously in Corey mode. He's right about PvP servers only allowing you to choose one faction, though. Yay, Viin! Blizzard is also planning to let people move their character to a different server at some point, if they like... but I don't know the rules.
Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Train Wreck on February 09, 2005, 09:24:51 AM Wrong side, Dr. Train Wreck. I plan on having multiple chars. EDIT - I played straight from about 10:30 pm until 5:30 am. Time sure flew by. It kind of reminds me of the first night I had WC2. Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Rasix on February 09, 2005, 09:40:11 AM If you're planning on getting one high, pick a side though. Leveling slows down quite considerably at higher levels.
So, if you want f13 people to play with, might want to go horde side. I won't be there, but goons like Way, Righ and various other people will be. Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Train Wreck on February 09, 2005, 10:01:08 AM When you say slow, do you mean EQ-ish slow, or even worse?
Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Rasix on February 09, 2005, 11:12:28 AM 8-10+ hours per level at 40 and up I'd say. At least 10+ hours for each of the last 10 levels. I'll grab my /played time next time I log in. Now, this will have lots of crafting time in it and I exclusively quest, but it should give you a good barometer on how long you should expect it to take.
Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: MrHat on February 09, 2005, 11:20:58 AM 8-10+ hours per level at 40 and up I'd say. At least 10+ hours for each of the last 10 levels. But I dont' craft, just resource nab. There is tons of wasted time in there as my bud just got his alt to 40 in like 3days /played. Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Sky on February 09, 2005, 11:46:36 AM I've got just over 9 days /played (holy crap!) on my 43 orc hunter. I'd say 8-10 hours for the 40s sounds about right, much faster before that. I usually mess around alot, pvp and whatnot. But as a fairly casual player, I'd say the advancement is just about right, the sweet spot. I actually expect to hit the level cap, if they don't raise it in a few months...
But 9 days /played, holy crap. I mean, I know I afk for hours at a time (that guitar playing bit), but sheesh. I guess WoW is a pretty good game. I haven't put in that kind of time into a mmog since the EQ /beta/. Wow, indeed. Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Morfiend on February 09, 2005, 11:59:06 AM Im about to hit lvl 55, and right now I have about 10 days and 4 hours played. But I guess I am a rogue, and I played beta.
I have a guildmate who is French Canadian who has over 23 days played at lvl 50. Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: MrHat on February 09, 2005, 12:11:20 PM I have a guildmate who is French Canadian who has over 23 days played at lvl 50. That made me laugh. This sounds painless after EQ and SWG force xp. Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Merusk on February 09, 2005, 12:54:25 PM I hit 60 two days ago and the last time I checked I had about 14 days /played. That was with lots of downtime in the 35+ levels because I was running back and forth between zones way too much and didn't know 'an efficient' questing path. I've been helping-out a priest friend of mine and we've gotten her from 46 to 56 in less than two weeks with about 4-5 hours a night partnered up and one day a weekend at 6-8 hours. That includes downtime to dick around at the AH and do some instance raiding with our guild.
The last few levels, from 55- 60 took me about 7-8 hours each IF I focused on questing and getting stuff done rather than putter with my usual resource gathering/ green mob ganking/ running from here-to-there answering world distress calls of 5+ hits. Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Morfiend on February 09, 2005, 01:15:46 PM I have a guildmate who is French Canadian who has over 23 days played at lvl 50. That made me laugh. I prefer my crabs steamed with a side of pasta, thank you very much! Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Rasix on February 09, 2005, 07:10:12 PM 11 days, 15 hours to 60. That's with a lot of farting around due to crafting (armorsmithing is a pain).
Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Train Wreck on February 10, 2005, 08:03:14 AM I have about 15 hours. Almost 13th lvl Warrior. Did a lot of farting around with crafting last night. 85 Mining / 75 Smithing / 50 Cooking. BTW, can anybody tell me where to find silver ore and fine thread?
Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Sky on February 10, 2005, 08:30:33 AM Silver ore is a rare spawn of copper nodes. When checking copper nodes, sometimes it'll be silver.
Thread: trades vendors. General, leatherworking, tailoring. Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Signe on February 10, 2005, 09:22:37 AM Is finding silver based on anything else? I didn't pay much attention to tradeskills until recently and I have never, ever found silver.

Thanks for the info. I have the strategy guide, and noticed that it doesn't have silver listed as appearing in any zones. That must be why. I didn't pay much attention to tradeskills until recently and I have never, ever found silver. Nope. Just an uncommon or rare node spawn. It'll spawn right where the copper vein would normally be. If you haven't done much mining, all the veins respawn in the same spot, I believe the spawn timer is random.Thinking about it, I believe Silver is Rare for the Copper Vein, and Tin is the Uncommon for Copper. Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Avatard on February 10, 2005, 11:58:23 AM Tin and Copper are different types of veins.
Silver is the uncommon/rare for Tin depending on area. Tin and Copper will never spawn in the same spot. Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Sky on February 10, 2005, 01:20:27 PM Yeah, that sounds right, now that I think some more on it. I have a crappy memory and it's been months since I've played my warrior (miner/smith).
Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Signe on February 10, 2005, 01:52:40 PM Thanks for the info.
Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Zetleft on February 10, 2005, 02:14:32 PM Tin and Copper are different types of veins. Silver is the uncommon/rare for Tin depending on area. Tin and Copper will never spawn in the same spot. Not all the time, in the Quarry in Westfall I've seen the same vien spawn Tin and Copper at different times, easy to remember as that was the first spot I ever found Tin (though there is some in the very eastern part of loc modan). I've also seen the rare silver vien appear in there but not at the same spot. Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Calantus on February 10, 2005, 04:27:27 PM Guide to finding veins:
- Go to Thottbot (http://www.thottbot.com/) - Type in the name of the ore you want, and add "vein" on the end (eg. "Copper Vein"). - Scroll down the list and click on the "map" link corresponding with the preferred area to hunt the mineral. And there you go, a map of ~all the mineral veins of that type in the specified zone. On the rare spawning ores, there are 3: - Silver, which replaces Tin, and sometimes Iron. - Gold, which replaces Iron, and sometimes Mithril. - Truesilver, which replaces Mithril (not sure on what else it replaces). All the rare spawns are simply random from what I can gather. When a vein respawns it has a chance of spawning as one of its rare counterparts. Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Train Wreck on February 15, 2005, 10:03:33 AM The only silver I have found so far were in treasure chests at Murlock camps. I just mined my first tin last night, so maybe I'll be finding more there.
Getting ready to hit lvl 19. I've been spending the last two days doing nothing but crafting and auction house stuff. Being able to sell a stack of copper bars for 50s is crazy, but I'm not complaining. I guess others have caught on, because it got flooded with copper yesterday. Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: WayAbvPar on February 15, 2005, 10:08:21 AM Train, are you still playing Alliance on Earthen Ring? Get yer ass over to the Horde side.

Does anybody have any suggestions? What's the roster look like so far? Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: WayAbvPar on February 15, 2005, 11:30:51 AM Of the folks who play regularly, we have the following (levels approximate)-
Grishak- level 34 rogue- skinning ~235/leatherworking ~165/Anyaala- level 23 mage tailoring ~165/Enchanting 100 Splurg 31 druid/Splurgo 30 shaman Kurgok 31 warrior Xlirenshadow 15 rogue Righ-rogue? warrior? can't remember. His main Irth is in another guild (58 hunter) Signe's batch of lowbies- Twee, Grundel, and a few others. She has been hiding from us recently. Kurgok as an alt in another guild (priest) that hangs with us sometimes, as well as a few non-guilded lowbie characters. I have been toying with the idea of a hunter alt, if I can just get past the pet idea (I loathe pets for the most part). Those are the active folks at the moment. Ideally Schild will restart his subscription for a month to hand over guild leadership so we could do tabards and the like. I will paypal ya $16.31 if that is what it takes :-D Holla if/when you get started and between the rest of us we can probably hook you up with some decent crafted gear to start out. Mail system RAWKS. Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Sky on February 15, 2005, 12:48:47 PM I should really join up....but you guys are such lowbies!!
(I never get to say that, sorry) Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: WayAbvPar on February 15, 2005, 01:45:55 PM Join up! You will have guild chat to entertain you as you catass to victory. Or you could make an alt to quest with some of the young uns.

Sorry... I don't play anything very often now. When I do log in, I usually play my Alliance brat on Icecrown. Haven't even done that in about a week or so. I play CoH for about an hour during the day, though... I don't seem to have the concentration for anything beyond that at the moment. I think I'm preoccupied or distracted or sommat. Otherwise, there's always Bazooko's Circus, The Doomed, or as Righ said, Generation of Swine. I do apologize for not giving full access to a member. My bad. :-( Title: Re: Looking for a home server Post by: Train Wreck on February 15, 2005, 07:50:49 PM My biggest beaf with WoW is that you can't put spaces in your name. And no I'm not messing with him. These rules are clearly laid out by blizzard themselves, as everyone would know if they'd bother to RTFM. As for starting a new guild- it is a pain in the ass, plus I am not sure we have enough active members to start a new one as of yet. 10 is the min, isn't it?
