Title: Mid Week Sale: Kalypso Strategy Pack
Post by: Ginaz on May 10, 2011, 03:19:54 PM
If you're into strategy games, Steam has a sale on now featuring 17 games.  The most notable games on the list is the Tropico series.

Considering Darkstar One (http://forums.f13.net/index.php?topic=18725.0), Disciples III, maybe Tropico 3. Couple other quirky looking titles in there, cheap.

Not sure about $30 for the whole shebang, though.

Darkstar One was pretty fun. It's a little on the grindy side for trading, but I had a good time with it.

For $2.50, I went for Darkstar One. Also includes Patrician 3 and The Great Art Race (which I thought looked interesting, too). Money is tight enough that I don't really want to drop even $7.50 on D3 and Tropico never grabbed me. The Roman stuff looks cool, too.

You're welcome.

Also, I'm discovering just how bad the Commandos games are. Serious rose-tinted glasses effect  :ye_gods:

I really really liked Tropico 3.

The only problem is figuring out how farms actually work in the beginning, and then figuring out the transportation woes of your city.

I too really enjoyed Tropico 3 once I figured out that the garages work as hubs with AE service coverage and that you really have to pay attention to local conditions when planning and planting farms.

Shame that I could never get Tourism to work right. I could build the docks/airport and the bungalows and hotels would get booked, but the attractions never made piss for money. Balancing between hordes of low-end laborers and having too many educated workers with not enough jobs + no one to do grunt work can be challenging at times.

I bought Darkstar 1, Tropico 3: Absolute Power and Tropico Reloaded.  The Darkstar 1 deal also came with Patrician III and The Great Art Race for free.  Not sure what those games are like, but they're free so who cares?  Although, some people do seem to care if they're given free games.

I thought the Great Art race was stupid and played it for like 10 minutes.

I tried to get into Patrician, but I do enough of that shit at work.
