Wednesday - Money sink for suckers (Sims 3).

I must confess that I bought NFS: Shift last night.  I'm a sucker for driving games and $6.88 was too cheap to pass up.  I really hate supporting EA, damnit.

Updated the first post.

Is Sim City 4 worth $5?

Anyone notice the "Dwarfs!?" game on the page? Looks like Dwarf Fortress, but much more playable.

I did, although watching the gameplay doesnt look Dwarf Fortress at all.

Uh, yeah, seriously.  I just got Need for Speed yesterday for like $2.50, and today they're trying to sell me another game for ten times that much?  $25.00 should be it's normal price, take 50% off that and I'd probably take the shot, but holy hell.  And the expansions are half off, too, so you can grab them for... another EIGHTY DOLLARS?  Are people seriously buying it for this much?  I guess they must be.

Took a look at that "Dwarfs" game, and it looks more Arcade-y than Dwarf Fortress.  Less about building a fortress and more about leveling up and collecting treasure, or something.  Information I can find is kind of sparse, though.

It is cute but ultimately nothing like Dwarf Fortress other than the fact that there are dwarves that dig. Not very deep, but fun in its way. Wait for it to be $5 or $3 or whatever though.

It's really more like lemmings. It's a puzzle game.

Is ME2 Deluxe worth the extra $$?

I guess this is mainly a question about how good is the soundtrack and is the art book interesting because in-game items rarely bother me.

Here's a vid for Dwarfs!?!?!?! http://www.youtube.com/user/TotalHalibut#p/c/2272A4EE84269E1F/0/9fK82bzj4Xw

To stay on topic, my wish is that Bulletstorm goes on sale. I want to shoot dick tits.

Looked at it yesterday - Sims 3 stuff packs were $10 (half price). Went to order the one that I actually wanted - told me I didn't own the base game. Turns out, they put Sims 3 on Steam, but won't let you register the game on Steam. So since I bought it retail, I can't buy anyof the addons or expansions via Steam unless I rebuy all of it.

EA store - selling the same stuff pack for $20. Fuck them.

This happened to me with the Medieval 2 expansion a few years ago I think. Except it let me buy it.  :ye_gods:

IMO, its not worth it. If it included some DLC or something, but most of the stuff is pretty useless. Especially for $10. Maybe if it was an extra $4 or something.

Today is Crysis Maximum Edition (Crysis/Crysis Warhead) for $9.99.

Not having played either, is this worth it?

(edit : wording)

Meh, Crysis was OK. I believe I got it for $5 in the holiday steam sale. It was a lot more fun when I hacked the config files to give myself high energy regen, low energy drain while using cloak, and faster move speed while using the sprint power. Then, I just went through the game as the predator. As a crafted FPS, I guess it's worth $5 or $10.

I suppose that depends on how much you like FPS.  Crysis is a pretty solid game, wander around in the forest and shoot asians (mostly).  I haven't played Warhead yet but I assume it's more of the same.  It's not exactly revolutionizing the genre, but there's nothing really drastically wrong with it either (save some performace/stability issues).

For anyone that bought Ultimate and has had trouble getting the DLC to work:

I logged back into my Ultimate and the DLC all started to download, finally. And it's showing up as enabled.

Now, I just have to figure out how to get Awakenings to actually be enabled... :oh_i_see:

Seems pretty good to me.  Some issues with the menus, but the gameplay itself was fine.  Not as natural feeling as something like System Shock 2, but that's fairly normal for survival horror, and I suspect it would be more awkward with a gamepad.  No obnoxious DRM or anything, as far as I know.  $5.00 seems like a good deal for it.

It was unplayable for me. The mouse control was horrible. I refuse to buy DS2 cause cause of how bad DS1 performed.

Got Awakenings working. I should be mad that I had to search around for solutions, but I'm happy that at least on the PC such tricks are an option:

Why not a weekly recap, Steam?  I was holding out to see what sales were coming up, assuming you'd do a weekend recap of the sales.  Now, you get none of my money.   :uhrr:

Haven't played any of today's games, are any of them particularly great/horrible?  It's hard to tell from trailers and stuff, it all just says "look, it's another army FPS" to me.

Don't touch MoH with a 10 foot pole. BC2 is of course awesome and if you don't have it and like FPS's, get it.

Bad Company 2 is pretty good, I think well worth the 6.something they're asking today.  Not your traditional twitch shooter like CoD, slower paced, lots of vehicle combat, much larger scale.  Even if you only play for a bit, the destructable terrain and buildings is fun to play around with.

I bought Vietnam because it's kind of unique and I should play it. I considered MoH for a while, but not gonna get it.

Thanks to SOE hack, I can't pick up BC2, since the bank has cancelled my credit card.

MoH:Airborne is actually pretty fun. Surprisingly open, and has leannnnnnnn. Not a bad game for the sale price at all. Just plain ol' MoH is not worth the money they are asking.

Leaning is totally biased against lefties with compact keyboard layouts.

The old Battlefield 2 mod? I didn't much like it. Run around for a long time to get one-shotted by someone you don't see. It's like WWII Online without the persistence but better graphics.

I didn't end up picking up BF2 anyway, but that doesn't sound too bad.  I really like WW2O though, so yeah.
