Title: Hot Fuzz
Post by: UnSub on April 28, 2011, 07:12:01 PM
I searched and found no topic on this yet.

This was a fantastic film - a great parody of the cop action and English crime thriller genres that I think only Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright and Nick Frost could have done.

Short outline: an overperforming cop gets a backwards promotion to a safe little English town where nothing ever happens. Except for all the horribly violent accidents.

Very funny and a great cast. It reminded me how much I like Timothy Dalton in the right role.

I went into it not knowing anything about the movie. I was really impressed with how funny, violently-so at times, the movie turned out.

Yea I love this movie. And like Paelos I had no idea what to expect the first time I saw it. In fact iirc, the movie poster didn't give it away at all. It was more like a Miami Vice/Bad Boys poster. Great flick.

Love this movie, almost more than Shaun of the Dead.   :awesome_for_real:

The best part is the discussion around Bad Boys II, the endless list of questions "Have you ever fired a gun whilst in hot pursuit" and the fact that by the end of the movie all of those things had been done.

Admittedly, the old man with the mine, the swan, and the absolutely smary/awesome vibe that Dalton brought to it was also excellent.

I think I'll go watch that tomorrow.

woot, hot fuzz is out? I've been waiting for this since I saw shawn of the dead.

(I wish there were more movies made like Bad Boys I/II etc, I can still rewatch them and enjoy myself, unlike the majority of today's action movies.)

Yeah, I think I saw this movie about five times in theaters.  Soooo good.  It's one of those rare movies that gets better and better consistently as the film goes on...without excpetion, every scene is better than the last.  Around the 2/3's mark it really kicks into overdrive.  <3 hot fuzz.

btw:  Damn those crusty jugglers!

Best comedy in many a year, this is.

- You'll live in the Castle suite. Fascist!
- I'm sorry?
- Type of government characterized by extreme dictatorship. Twelve down.
- Oh, that should be fasc-ism.
- Ooh. Lovely.
- You're welcome. Hag!
- I beg your pardon?
- Old woman, considered frightful or ugly. It's seven across.
- Bless you.

And then, later in the movie, during the shootout:

"Fascist!", she fires and misses. He hits the flowerpot above her and it falls on her head, "Hag."

The same flowerpot she can be seen watering previously in the movie, when Angel is out running...

It's just a brilliant movie.

There's a lot of that Easter-egg type of thing in Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim too.     Edgar Wright

I think the best single gag in the entire movie is
I cried.
