Title: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Falconeer on April 08, 2011, 01:43:36 AM Under the -spoiler- tag, all the recruiting signup fluff, including official rules for signing up. Since it's all in the PC Games forum too, I don't want to have an identical post up here. But you should still peek under the spoiler just to make sure you are not forgetting stuff. So...
>>>>>>> <<<<<<< Who is already in? I'm only joining if the cool kids around here joined too, you know... These are the first 32, chosen due to participation in Season #3 (reserved spot in S#4) and first come first served for newcomers. - Falconeer - Carnifex 27 - Paelos - Modern Angel - Sky - Ulysees - Gruntle - Ginaz - Sir T - Comstar - Longstrider - Bann - HaemishM - Proudft - AndyDavo - Teleku - Reborn - Llyse - Megrim - Avaia - IainC - Celer - Lamaros - Drogg - Eldaec - Ingmar - Strazos - Ruvaldt - Ezrast - Ironwood - Ice Cream Emperor - Merusk Waiting list (this doesn't mean you are out. Means we are trying to figure out a way to include you). - Der Helm - Kail (this guy offered himself as a filler) Get your copy (http://store.steampowered.com/app/58520/), sign up, bring a friend, kick asses and melt faces. This time it's gonna be :awesome_for_real: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Falconeer on April 08, 2011, 01:47:34 AM Also, important NEW RULE:
- To make sure that the winner of the game instantly uploads his/her replay to BBManager, or in case of a tie you agree on who's gonna do it. When in doubt, you both upload it. This will save me a lot of work, and will take you only a few seconds. This is very important. And I'll go as far as using the rule which is in effect in the Orca Cola and some other major BB competition. It's the winner of a match responsibility to upload the replay. If, by the end of the Game Week the winner hasn't uploaded his/her replay, the win will go to the other player. In case of a draw, coaches are supposed to agree on who is gonna upload. When in doubt, just upload (removing a duplicate is very easy). Just remember, uploading a replay to BB Manager takes 5 seconds, right after the end of the game. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Modern Angel on April 08, 2011, 05:11:31 AM I am IN!
I'd also add, on BBManager, make sure you have the right game day selected when you upload. BBManager is pleasingly good at autodetecting what needs to go in except for that. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Llyse on April 08, 2011, 05:16:17 AM 3rd time's a charm

Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Celer on April 08, 2011, 07:02:12 AM I'm in, preferably with some of my feeder teams, my Undead are making me cry.
Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Sky on April 08, 2011, 07:50:29 AM I was going to do a feeder team, but the Bashtards got a couple nice late-season upgrades. Being so entirely weak against dodge is making the greenskins see red, though. But I do like the Orcs, so them's the breaks for at least another season.
Amazon blodgers with guard, Nuffle wept. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Paelos on April 08, 2011, 07:51:27 AM I'll join up.

Just to confirm the 1250 TV, 0 gold cap applies also to teams from the main league or only from the feeder league? 90% sure the restrictions are feeder only. Regardless, I'm in, with my Beetles. The Pointy Hat Squad (somehow) ended their season at a higher TV, but the Beetles finally has a full(ish) roster, so what the hell, go mummies go. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. No really I'm in if you'll have me, but I'm pretty sure I'm not as much of a ringer as AndyDavo. If anyone wants to test out my lizzie team in the feeder league between now and then, I could definetely use the TV.
Edited to add: If anyone wants to set up a game between 6 and 10 am pst (gmt -8) lemme know. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Kail on April 08, 2011, 10:13:02 AM I'm kind of lukewarm on this season (exams this month), but I can probably fill a hole if you need to add another player to

One problem, however. I'm going to be out of the country (heading to France/Germany) from April 29th to May 11th. I highly doubt I'll be able to figure out a way to play BB while over there (all my Euro friends seem to only own crappy lap tops), so I couldn't play during that time. Thrawn Neg, I just won't have time to learn to play well and it would be really hard to find time to play my matches. Requires literally one hour every 9 days. We spend much more time posting about matches than playing them. And Haemish and Sky, plus a few others, had never played against a human at the start of last season. These are weak excuses. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Strazos on April 10, 2011, 01:54:26 PM I had played two games against AI before my first League game, and I went to the playoffs my first season.

Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Falconeer on April 12, 2011, 05:37:28 PM I am sorry for being mostly away. Honestly, I am.
Your PMs are being taken care of. Sure, I need a PM, but I am not gonna leave anyone behind, and as long as you shown interest I'll probably message you at some point just to make sure you got how to signup (in case you didn't follow all the steps). Everything's working fine on my end, and yes there will be a bracketing video. Of some sorts. Probably less epic, and well.. shorter than last Season's. About starting date, yes it's probably a good idea to push it one week later, to make sure to avoid the Easter mess and not start the whole thing with the wrong foot. So, what about starting April 29th? This way the first Game Day wouldn't be over until May 7th, should give enough time for anyone to be back and play, right? Oh, and AndyDavo still has to pick up his prize for Season #3. I haven't forgotten, man. Just shoot me a message letting me know what you picked from the Steam catalogue. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Strazos on April 12, 2011, 05:47:13 PM Still waiting for your epilogue post for S3.

I'm still rooting for (female) Italian breasts in the video. Or does your foreign charm only work on Americans? :why_so_serious: Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Falconeer on April 13, 2011, 01:53:19 AM You know, accents are like love potions... which for obvious reasons only work on foreigners. With Italians it all takes more effort... which I don't care that much about since THEY don't have an accent :why_so_serious: (I still have my luck though, though, in Italy too).
April 29th it is then. I'll up date the threads where needed. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Llyse on April 13, 2011, 08:41:04 AM I might have to forfeit the first week, or crash AndyDavo in person since I'll be in the UK.
But I don't need to play all my matches to choke again :awesome_for_real: Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Teleku on April 13, 2011, 08:58:10 AM Yeah, I'm leaving for for France/Germany on the 29th, and getting back May 11th. This, manage the groups as separate competitions and they can all be any even numbered size you like. Or just create a 6x6 league and apply peer pressure so that the people here who have the game but haven't signed up (we know where you post) grow some balls and fill the league by the 29th. Also, Falconeer's mathematics is terrible, there are 35 names on that list. Bully Thrawn, Vaiti, Sjofn, Azazel, Tebonas, or Aez into signing up and you have 36 (6 groups of 6, winners and two best runners up qualify for separate end of season knock out tourney) get 5 and you have 40 (5 groups of 8, winners and best 3 runners up qualify). Problem solved. Asking people not to sign up is horrible, because firstly there is going to come a time when we're desperate for numbers to keep this going, and secondly it just sucks. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Paelos on April 16, 2011, 12:05:51 PM Yeah. See, even Ironwood agrees. Chaos specifically is a little rough to start, but not too bad. Your worst opponents will be those with lots of Block or Dodge, since you have none (so Dwarves, Amazons, Norse, are pretty rough). If you have a minotaur, you need to really work around Wild Animal - it fails much less often if he blocks or blitzes, but always consider that is he going to fail and him doing anything is a bonus (I still like him though). If you're not blowing blitzes on the minotaur, make sure you are blitzing with the beastmen instead of the chaos warriors, since they effectively become chaos warriors when blitzing with the +1 ST bonus from Horns. Other than that, they are pretty average at everything. You'll _usually_ pick up the ball and _usually_ succeed at handoffs and _usually_ fail at passing, and dodging is a crapshoot. So work around those assumptions. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: ezrast on April 17, 2011, 01:29:36 PM See the resources/questions thread below if you haven't already. Don't get attached to your teams, especially in your complete-newb phase; I started a bunch of tournaments that I abandoned after one or two games just to get a feel for what the different races do and which ones I had enough of a knack with to try to push it a little further (for me that team was lizards, although even then I don't know if I ever actually finished a tournament with them until f13 Season 3).
I haven't played chaos at all myself, but everyone says they're hard to win with at first. If you do want to stick with them just focus on learning game mechanics and don't worry so much about winning. After you understand why the AI does what it does, you'll be beating it regularly. It takes awhile to them skills and they can be frustrating to play in the beginning, though once they do get skills they seem to be one of the better teams. Try starting with orcs, dwarfs, or undead. Once you get the hang of things maybe try skaven or wood elfs. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Modern Angel on April 17, 2011, 03:56:46 PM Use this:

Post by: dusematic on April 17, 2011, 08:37:15 PM Dusematic, would you like to sign up for Season #4? Not sure if you said so anywhere... I don't think so. I'm pretty bad. After doing some reading up I did improve though. Some subtle concepts really make all the difference. I played another tournament and won 3 of 4 games. The problem is, even though I won 75% of my games, I still came in 3rd place in the rankings. So, clearly wins isn't how they rank the teams. I guess I pretty much lost interest after I saw that. I realized I'd literally spent all day playing 8 matches (two tournaments) and only had a couple level 2 guys and 0 prestige. What an epic grind. Unless I'm missing something it must take months of man-hours to rise to the top of the ranks. All in all, worth my 10 bucks I spent, but I don't have time for this game. Too hardcore. Very interesting though. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: HaemishM on April 17, 2011, 09:07:15 PM With Chaos teams, you will learn the meaning of the words "Fucking Beastmen."
I like Chaos, but yeah, they can be really frustrating early on. Also, single-player tournaments are not where Blood Bowl is at. It's all about the multiplayer leagues. That's where the real fun is. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Sky on April 17, 2011, 09:17:23 PM Sucky players can get lucky, even I win once in a while. :)
And I only play the f13 matches, about an hour a week and haven't played since the close of season 3 regular season. It's very casual friendly, as long as you don't expect to make the playoffs. It's fun watching the vets get hot if you can sneak in a win or injure (or kill!) a player or two. I got frustrated after a couple games, but it was really the interface that bothered me most. Overall, it was a fun experience. You should try an undead team instead. And to echo Haemmy: single player is just for learning the interface. Jump into Season 4 and learn on the pitch like everyone else. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Celer on April 17, 2011, 09:26:58 PM Some advice from a relative newb... if you're using 4-minute turns, you need to switch to 2-minute turns as soon as it's practicable. That makes each game take 60-90 minutes (depending on setup time and such) as opposed to 2-3 hours. At first it might seem like things are moving way too fast, and you don't have time to move all your players, but actually you spend too much time over-thinking with 4-minute turns anyway.
Dodgy teams level up a bit faster than bashy teams, and they play totally different, so definitely try both out. Even elves don't level up every game, more like every 2-3 games, but SPP from TDs (and passing) come faster than casualties. This league is just one game a week for 2 months, so it's not a lot of pressure. It's a simple 3 points per win, 1 point per tie standings system. Granted, you will get stomped by the one or two high-level teams in your division but there will be some new teams as well. It is a LOT more fun playing against other people. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Falconeer on April 18, 2011, 01:47:04 AM Ok... 35 players. One day to the deadline to create ingame Leagues and be sure Eldaec can sign in (as promised). What do we do?!?!
I don't have time to pressure any of the indecisive ones to join. We could make it work with 36 or 40, hardly with numbers in between. What do we do? Solutions! Now! Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: ezrast on April 18, 2011, 02:17:26 AM Sjofn! Duse! You've been bitten by the Blood Bowl bug, and we know you want some more! You've still got two weeks to sharpen your skills before the league starts, and any number of us would be willing to play you in the feeder league and offer tips. You'll be amazed at how much more comfortable you get with the game after just a match or two with a real person. And how much more bloodthirsty.</peptalk>
Failing that, last season there was some discussion of allowing coaches to field multiple teams. Seems like we settled on "avoid if at all possible" - which I agree with - but I don't think there was any reason it would break the game, and with as many teams as we have I don't think having one coach double up would be terribly detrimental. So I'd just go ahead and create it for 36 players, and let someone double up if we can't find a filler in the next day or two. Have we talked about divisions yet? 4 divisions of 9 would make the season a bit too long in my opinion, but 6 divisions of 6 would make it a bit too short and give us weird numbers for the playoffs. Not sure which I'd prefer. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. A single coach can't have more than one team in a given league at the same time. If the season is set up as separate leagues for each division with an invitational final league then that wouldn't be a problem but it's still sub-optimal. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Modern Angel on April 18, 2011, 04:40:30 AM Make it 36 people, that's it. #36 decides by the end of the day or it's a dummy team.
Funnel extras over to More Eddie Season 2. Unsure about structure. I'm assuming that 36 would work since it's divisible by 4. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: IainC on April 18, 2011, 05:22:34 AM God, I really shouldn't. Because I will be terrible. Can I have a week of practice before I decide? :P The worst that can happen is that you play a few games of Bloodbowl against folks from F13 and maybe decide you don't like it after all. There were plenty of people in the last league who had never played before and most of them had fun. Actually I guess the absolute worst that can happen is that your fragile psyche snaps from the crushing humiliation of seeing your only rank 2 player murdered by a cheeky 1 dice block from a Skink and you go on an amphetamine-fuelled rampage of blood and shotgun shells that ends up with you firing indiscriminately into a crowd while taking alternate swigs from a bottle of Mad Dog 20/20 and a family-sized container of nail polish remover. That would be pretty bad I'd imagine. Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: lamaros on April 18, 2011, 05:36:14 AM Can we just now make it 36 players? Open today, and then give the 36th the nest week and a bit to decide?
Because we don't have to have it closed and ready to go by tomorrow so Eldaec can sign up. We just have to have it open, right? So fix on 36. Open signups. Everyone can get in and if it turns out we're still one short we can spend the next week harassing that person, get them in in time and be ready to go in may? Or am I misunderstanding the process? Title: Re: The *Season #4* thread. Post by: Falconeer on April 18, 2011, 05:54:43 AM 36 it is.
