I remember hearing she was sick, but didn't remember it was blood cancer. Apparently announced back in 2001, so 10 years is a long-ass survivor time. At the time, I was in grade school on a USN base (Dahlgren Naval Surface Weapons Center - the guys who are testing railguns these days), so Reagan fanboyism was endemic. Being contrarian even at a young age, I voiced my support for Mondale/Ferraro. I doubt I had any comprehension whatsoever of the issues.
