Title: RIP - Geraldine Ferarro @ 75.
Post by: Merusk on March 26, 2011, 10:02:46 AM
Geraldine Ferraro dies at 75 in hospital. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110326/ap_on_re_us/us_obit_ferraro)

I remember hearing she was sick, but didn't remember it was blood cancer.  Apparently announced back in 2001, so 10 years is a long-ass survivor time.  Poor lady didn't need to have "lost by a landslide" pointed out several times in her obit, though.  It was Regan, there was no chance.

That was the first election I have coherent memories of.

At the time, I was in grade school on a USN base (Dahlgren Naval Surface Weapons Center - the guys who are testing railguns these days), so Reagan fanboyism was endemic. Being contrarian even at a young age, I voiced my support for Mondale/Ferraro. I doubt I had any comprehension whatsoever of the issues. I did know enough to think it was neat that Ferraro was a woman.

I'll have you know that I was one of the 3 people that voted for Mondale.

I liked Ferrarro.  Sad that she has to be placed into the same category as Palin for all of history.  Perhaps that's what killed her.

I'm not old enough to have known her as a VP candidate, only as the crazy Hillary supporter who went nuts during the last campaign.

According to my (very rough) calculations, that puts you at about 98 years old.

Nebu walked uphill in the snow, both ways to vote for Mondale.

That made my day.  Well played!  :awesome_for_real:

No.  Ferrarro was a footnote in the end.  Palin is an absolute nutjob and Ferraro shouldn't even be joked about in the same sentence as Palin.  I would equate Ferrarro as more akin to the Mrs. Clinton.

She did go a little wacky during the 2008 campaign, yeah, but I have mostly positive memories of her as the 1984 campaign is the first one I really remember too.
