Title: Pyongyang haircut
Post by: Tale on March 14, 2011, 02:02:29 PM
A wonderful video taken inside North Korea by a tourist whose minders didn't realise his SLR could take videos: http://vimeo.com/19901182

And if someone in the N.K. government sees that, both of those people are in some serious shit.

Yeah, I have to say that fun as it is to see, it's likely to have consequences which make it very unfun.

I don't get it, why would she be in danger? Isn't that the exact kind of image the leaders in the north want to show? A Happy and Productive worker?

Yeah but she didn't fill out the paperwork.

The haircut might not be an issue, but the stuff cut in between doesn't always depict the Great North Korea as being Great. The worst would happen to his guide who you can see pop into the room in the mirror. Her job is to make sure he doesn't take pictures they don't have a chance to review.

Also, they're very much against tourists interacting with the people. It also depends on his nationality though.

If you want more examples of what happens to people watch Kimjongilia (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1180311/). It's a truly depressing movie of tales from people that escaped.

One guy got sent to jail for playing a capitalist piano piece, another for saying Kim Jong Il had a lump on his neck, one for placing paper on the ground with the Generals face down, and one poor womans who was a friend of Kim Jong Il's lover.
