He goes from MS-DOS 5.0 all the way to Windows 7. Not very useful, but I still find it nerdily cool.

Lots of nostalgia here.  I got a little too excited when I saw the 3.0 & 3.1 install. "OOh I remember that!"

Floppy disks.  Endless fucking floppy disks.  Boxes and boxes and boxes of fucking floppy disks.

Oh, Ironwood.  We can always count on you to bring us back to earth.

That reminds me.. I actually found a disk caddy with about 90 floppies in it in my garage the other day.  Fuck if I know why I kept 'em.

Yes, probably.  I too have been doing a clearout and it's amazing how many writeable CD's I've found with NO Labels.  I will check them when She's Not Around.

I also found my entire X-Wing collection but some bastard has stood on the Alliance 2nd CD.  Which is a shame.  I'm gonna load up TIE Fighter on VirtualBox in a bit and go work for Thrawn.

My empty case for System Shock 2 mocks me. When I was pulling my desk out of storage, I found a slew of floppies in a box. Syndicate, System Shock 1, Ultima 7, Lost Treasures of Infocom, lots of great games in there. I wonder how many of the disks are even good anymore. Several boot disks  :awesome_for_real:

I think we've all been there  :drill:

System Shock 1 AND 2 in the original cases, all ready to go.  Wonder if Win7 64 hates them too.

Ah, but you probably can't go back.  Who knows.

X-wing vs tie fighter was a glorious game.  It had a pretty cool community back in the day too.

God yeah, fantastic game. Surprisingly good multiplayer too, back in the dial-up days.

Alas, it won't run without a joystick and for some reason, Win7 or WinXP in a VirtualBox, won't recognise a MS Sidewinder.  Perhaps the dust broke it...

Wing commander > X-wing

The glorious days of irq conflicts, mate had a pc with x-wing but couldn't have his mouse and soundcard working at the same time.  I spent a long time convincing him a mouse wasn't really that important.

The video would have been a lot longer if he hadn't skipped NT 4.0. Now where did I put that floppy with the 3rd party storage drivers...

My last attempt at System Shock (the real one) did not turn out well.  It's the CDROM version, which might have something to do with it.  I'm ever so slowly building a new PC with a i5 and 8GB RAM on a ASUS P7P55D board, and if that thing can't handle SS in DosBox then... well I guess I will give up for another three-to-five years.

I had a lot of fun in System Shock, quite a bit of it due to the rollerskates.  Can I go back?

ok, I find it really, really fucking silly that I can't really play Mechcommander 2 in Windows 7 either.  Also, that it's still as shite as I remember.

Fucking Microsoft, fucking up Mechs.  Cunts.

I'm going to go out on a limb and ask again, but have you tried http://www.dosbox.com/ ? I've no idea how that compares to virtualbox vOv

Apparently there's a Windows 95 version/sequel of X-Wing.  If you have that, you're probably fucked.  But DOSBox, linked above, will run goddamn near anything designed to run in an MS-DOS environment.

CHAPS, I KNOW OF DOSBOX.

However, the problem I was talking about was XvT not running without a joystick and my sidewinder refusing to be appear cause it looks broken.  I'm not sure of the magical healing powers of dosbox to fix broken usb devices.

The way you wrote it made them think Virtual Box was the problem, not a broken joystick.

ahh the good old days, they were terrible.

at work this past year IT sent out and email saying "bring us your floppys for back up or kiss them goodbye".  It was interesting to see just how many old time employees still had data on floppys they wanted preserved (no idea what % of them actually worked)

I stopped using floppies 15+ years ago, after I tried to store shit on a floppy, and more than half of them would actually not work after 5 minutes, if not more, because of bad sectors. :awesome_for_real:
