Title: Maj. Richard Winters RIP Post by: Numtini on January 11, 2011, 06:26:42 AM I know a lot of people here have watched, possibly even read, and are fans of Band of Brothers. Dick Winter passed on (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-12158637) last week from Parkinsons at age 92. The news was withheld at the family's request until after his funeral.

His book (http://www.amazon.com/Beyond-Band-Brothers-Memoirs-Winters/dp/0425213757/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1294757602&sr=8-1) is a really good read and fills in a lot of blanks from BoB. There was a statue with documentary (http://www.timgraymedia.com/current-projects/richard-winters-leadership-project/) being filmed called the Leadership Project. The statue was of then (1st Lt) Winters and located in Sainte-Marie-du-Mont. Curt is actually the spokesperson on the project and the narrator for the film. Really sad loss. Title: Re: Maj. Richard Winters RIP Post by: devildog on January 11, 2011, 07:19:33 AM When i hear the word hero brought up this is the first person that comes to mind. A good person to emulate from what i've seen and read. The right guy at the right place at the right time. His passing is a huge loss.
Title: Re: Maj. Richard Winters RIP Post by: Nebu on January 11, 2011, 07:22:59 AM I think it's encouraging that Spielberg and Hanks have used their influence to bring unsung heros like Winters (and others) into the public consciousness.
EDIT: Thanks for the book link. I'm going to check it out. EDIT 2: RE: BoB; It appears that Heffron and Guarnere are still alive and have a book too. Title: Re: Maj. Indeed they are, they are even putting up Youtube videos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ufc6F7bx6pI) helping support the Leadership Project. Title: Re: Maj. Richard Winters RIP Post by: SnakeCharmer on January 11, 2011, 07:31:10 AM I honestly cried yesterday when I read the news of his passing. He is truly a man among men.
e: His book is a fantastic read. I've read it twice, and will probably read it a third time this week. Title: Re: Maj. Richard Winters RIP Post by: Stormwaltz on January 11, 2011, 08:11:45 AM They rarely make humans so well.
