Title: Razer Switchblade Post by: Ginaz on January 06, 2011, 01:05:41 PM OK, I don't know much about this new mobile gaming system from Razor. It sound interesting but who knows how it will end up. The best part, however, is the video Razor made to promote it. Pay particular attention to the asian guy at the beginning CEO and "Chief Gamer" of Razor. Chief Gamer. Really???). Its hilarious how serious he is when talking about it, almost like they've found the cure for cancer or made peace in the middle east. :awesome_for_real:

My first thought was "I hope a key never goes bad or someone spills coke on it". Title: Re: Razer Switchblade Post by: NiX on January 06, 2011, 01:19:58 PM Meh. I just want the tron Mouse and Keyboard.
Title: Re: Razer Switchblade Post by: Prospero on January 06, 2011, 01:28:42 PM Why does every fucking CEO have to sound like Steve Jobs? Is this some new CEO meme?

Also, where's the goddamn trackball/mouse interface for that thing? I think the USB port they showed in the rotating shot is for one of their $$ mice. meh Title: Re: Razer Switchblade Post by: Surlyboi on January 06, 2011, 03:15:55 PM Why does every fucking CEO have to sound like Steve Jobs? Is this some new CEO meme? Been that way for almost five years now. Title: Re: Razer Switchblade Post by: Ghambit on January 07, 2011, 07:07:25 AM As much as I'd like to bash this device, in the 7" tablet/ipad market it could be a VERY strong player if priced right (I anticipate toughbook type pricing), just simply due to the fact it's a "flip" e.g. it has a fuckin keyboard (along with the touchscreen). Sure, one could buy a netbook, but good luck doing any kind of hardcore media stuff on one. The caveat? No one knows what the vid. card will be. :oh_i_see:
If it's priced near the iPad I'll probably buy one instead of getting a 'Droid based tablet. Title: Re: Razer Switchblade Post by: Malakili on January 07, 2011, 09:27:38 AM I sort of like the idea of it, though frankly I don't have time to game in any of the places I normally go when I leave the house soooo...
Title: Re: Razer Switchblade Post by: Trippy on January 07, 2011, 09:28:47 AM You aren't going to do anything hardcore on an Atom CPU. I built myself an Atom D525 based file server over the holidays and that CPU, which is one of the faster ones in the family, is fucking slow. It does work fine as a file server but you aren't going to be doing any hardcore PC gaming on an Atom-based platform even if it did have a beefy GPU.
Edit: PC gaming that is Title: Re: Razer Switchblade Post by: Malakili on January 07, 2011, 09:36:08 AM You aren't going to do anything hardcore on an Atom CPU. Edit: PC gaming that is Well, in that video they showed like...WoW, league of legends (maybe HoN? I can't tell the difference just by looking quickly, either way though), and Quake 3. Sort of hardcore, but hardly cutting edge. Title: Re: Razer Switchblade Post by: Sheepherder on January 07, 2011, 11:47:58 AM Atom's really aren't that hot. Title: Re: Razer Switchblade Post by: Prospero on January 07, 2011, 01:59:48 PM I think they've been playable at CES for press.
Title: Re: Razer Switchblade Post by: slog on January 08, 2011, 05:26:26 AM I bought a Razor DeathAdder mouse and a Razer Lycosa keyboard. The mouse is great, but the keyboard randomly stops working. When I googled this, it turns out that the Lycosa has had hardware problems from day 1 which Razor claimed that they fixed, but obviously didn't.
Buy from Razor at your own risk. Title: Re: Razer Switchblade Post by: Malakili on January 08, 2011, 05:29:42 AM I bought a Razor DeathAdder mouse and a Razer Lycosa keyboard. Title: Re: Razer Switchblade Post by: Vaiti on January 08, 2011, 08:59:21 AM At CE5 they have also been touting off L4D2 as one of the playable titles. So I'm guessing it isn't too underpowered.
Title: Re: Razer Switchblade Post by: Sheepherder on January 08, 2011, 09:18:41 AM The Atom is horrible at 3D, multi-threading, and overclocking. It's not a gaming processor, and it's not something they're going to fix with a few revisions.
Title: Re: Razer Switchblade Post by: rattran on January 08, 2011, 03:20:19 PM I went through 3 Lycosas. Razer replaced the first with the next hardware refresh, and the second with the NEXT hardware refresh. Then the 3rd had the same unresponsive key issues start and I just retired it. And their Black Widow Ultimate is somewhat underwhelming. Brown Cherry switches, weird font, off design.
And the atom 525 paired with an ion2 is not terrible, plays torchlight fine, handles 1080p h.264 video. I wouldn't want to try l4d2 on it unless settings were 'terribad' graphics level. It makes an admirable irc/torrents/server box |
