Well this fucking sucks :( Seems like only yesterday when it was 1988 and he starred as a young, lively 62? year old in first Naked Gun movie - which was the first movie I saw him in.

Oh man  :sad_panda:

One of the greats, and hugely under-appreciated, in my opinion.

What IainC said. Also, I was 8 by 1988 and probably didn't see this movie until a couple of years later, at earliest - I doubt I even knew who Leslie Nielsen was before 1990.

This is damn terrible news. Loved Police Squad as a kid, and the Naked Gun movies even more.

He was simply great. Beside the Naked Gun movies, I loved him as the President of the USA in Scary movie 3:

We're sorry to bother you at such a time like this, Mrs. Twice. We would have come earlier, but your husband wasn't dead then.

Russell Peters has been hugely popular in America for about the last 5 years or so.  Hell, most people I know didn't realize he was Canadian.   :awesome_for_real:

So you are saying there are brown people in America?  :ye_gods:

I kid, I kid - I just find that living in Vancouver makes other places seem very, um, monochrome in comparison. I wondered how well Peters' ethnic impersonations played to other places.

Oh come on, most major American cities are massive melting pots.  San Francisco is even less white than Vancouver.  Of course his humor is going to go over well here.  US and Canadian culture is incredibly similar, things popular in one place are going to be popular in another.  Now, I don't know how popular he is outside of North America....

On another note, I went to google his name after I read about his death, and discovered that there's actually a model who shares his name (with a slightly different spelling), via google throwing this picture at me after hitting the search button:

NSFW:
Further investigations show she has many other great photos.  So thank you Leslie Nielsen!  Even in death you bring me joy.

I only do straight if I'm playing. :drillf:

To be serious a second, a lot of my humor is deadpanned silliness thanks to Mr. Nielsen.  He's always been one of my favorites.

I don't remember which of the Naked Gun movies it comes from (and I'm probably misqouting it), but the most memorable one for me:

Somebody: Frank, you might wind up dead!
Frank Drebin:  "You Might Wind Up Dead" is my middle name.
