Title: Dial In Authenticator
Post by: Numtini on November 10, 2010, 07:18:53 AM
Bliz has a new dial in (http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&tag=dialinauth&rhtml=true) service available. This is a service where you call in from your phone and it records your phone number. If they detect any sort of funny business on your account-the IP address changes to China for example-you get prompted to call in and validate your login. But generally, if you just play at home, you just log in as usual.

I'd really like it if the normal authenticator worked like this.

I thought the same thing!

In particular, I'm irritated that I need to drag the authenticator around if I want to post on the new forums. So yeah.

Now that I am debating whether to commit seppuku by reupping to this horror or not, what's the word on this? Being unemployed and somewhat broke, I have no smart phone so that option is out. Phone in or silly dongle?

Silly dongle. It's cheap. It works. It's pretty much hassle-free.

You could also use winauth (http://code.google.com/p/winauth) or an emulated Android Authenticator (http://elitistjerks.com/blogs/koaschten/443-emulated_authenticator_edition.html) because honestly, if they can get through to reading one of these you've probably got bigger problems to worry about.
