Title: Snipping Video Help
Post by: Abagadro on November 05, 2010, 08:40:28 PM
Does anyone have the capability of snipping a couple of minutes out of a long .wmv file that is just playable on the internet (i.e. not sure it can be downloaded or at least I don't know how) so that it is its own file? Or, if it is easy, could someone provide instructions?

I'm trying to create a file of just a couple of minutes from the top listed file from here (1:36:00 to 1:38:32 to be precise):

Gave it a shot with Firefox's Download helper but the media don't download regular. I'm no expert, however.

It's a streaming media file (mms) -- you can't download it through normal means.

I'm making a clip for you via FRAPS.

Greasemonkey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greasemonkey) probably has a script to do it. I know there is one to download from youtube and such.

For future reference:

Firefox has an extension called Flashgot which might be able to capture the file without doing a screen capture, and Windows Movie Maker is actually pretty slick for simple editing.

Those of you who keep bringing up various Firefox plugins need to just stop. As I said at the top you can't download mms streams through normal means even if you know what the URL of the stream is.

VLC on the other hand -can- capture MMS/RTSP to disk. I've used it on occasion.

Point is, it's very possible even by using household software.

Yes it can, however, I haven't had good luck with it capturing partial streams but that was a while ago with an old version. Hence my usage of FRAPS.

That was pretty awesome, especially the lady facepalming in the background half way through.
