When did it become standard to make notes out of cardstock?

It makes a serious pain in the ass to find actual cards.

I guess I'm stuck with ordering online from now on for my writing needs.

Writing is a dead art, I'm still amazed I can find wood pencils of appreciable quality.  A sharpener, however, is far more elusive.

Have you tried places that still sell Franklin planner materials (if you can find one) or a Hallmark store?

Kids today are barely taught how to write in cursive before being turned loose on keyboards.  Are you really that surprised that fine writing materials (or even not-so-fine ones) are difficult to get anymore? 

Good riddance to cursive, IMO. I switched to printing instead of 'writing' as soon as I was allowed to in 7th grade, what a waste of time cursive writing is.

Cursive is as dead as copper-plate.  As someone who switched between right and left handed several times as I learned each, and as a result still have handwriting that looks like a child's scrawl, I say "good riddance" to them, along with doing any kind of math on paper more advanced than long division.  If you can't solve it in your head, you use a computer.

I write in capitals and Have for years. My dyslexia made cursive writing impossible. I actually had to jam pens around my fingers to steady my hand, which was shaking with the effort I had to put into it to make my writing halfway readable. These days the only thing I use it for is signing my name.

Anyway check out an art shop.

I think it's important people know how to at least read cursive. <shrug>

I mean yeah, ultimately if I had to pick teaching kids how to write in cursive and teaching kids how to type, I'd pick typing, but there's nothing wrong with teaching kids how to write in cursive, you giant babies.

Fuck cursive and everything it stands for.  Being forced to practice that shit in school is probably one of my greatest regrets in life.  Such a fucking waste.  Its impossible to even learn how to read it, since every jackass in the old days developed their own short hand form for everything.  You really CANT learn to read cursive.

When ever anybody would write anything out for me when I had to work with he public, and they wrote in cursive, I'd hand it back and ask them to write it in English so we could understand.  Fuck them and the horse they rode in on.  You get NO service!

Those are what I thought he meant at first too, and those are actually pissing me off. I'm not sure about those particular ones, but the last 3 packs I've bought haven't been made with cardstock, but heavyish paper instead. Completely useless except for scratch notes.

There are standards, people just choose to bastardize the shit out of it.  They do it with ordinary script, too, it's just that the options for jazzing it up aren't quite the same, so it usually stays legible.

Anyway, back on topic:  Note Cards.  Personally, I like them.  Especially the way that they have two sides and you can often write stuff on them.

I make backward capital F and have an odd hybrid print/cursive style. I blame Leo Fender.

I read something once that said the worse your handwriting is the more likely you are to get Alzheimer's, but I can't remember where I read it...

Searching the Cochrane Library and PubMed turned up nothing about this. There's a fair amount of light research showing that handwriting (along with other motor skills) deteriorate as Alzheimer's progresses, but I couldn't find anything attempting to use handwriting as a pre-conditional diagnostic.

Sounds like bollocks to me.
