Title: Devil
Post by: HaemishM on September 09, 2010, 08:52:13 AM
Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aINOilb_Kzc)

So I saw the trailer for this in front of either Scott Pilgrim or Inception, can't remember which. And it looks BAD. What I found most entertaining was that as soon as Shamalamadingdong's name came on the screen, the entire theater burst into laughter.

That looks terrible.

Has Shamalongafucktard made a decent movie in the last decade?

Unbreakable was pretty good.

But that WAS in 2000...

Bunch of no-name actors on a simple set. Starting his career from scratch?

He's not directing it, just producing it or something.

He's not directing it, just producing it or something.

He also co-wrote the story.

"Producer" and "Story By" credits. Which basically means fuck all apart from coming up with the initial idea (and perhaps watching over the shoulder of the writer).

Although on first watching of the trailer, I did wonder for a moment if he was also playing one of the characters too. Sent shivers down my spine!

From an interview with the directors (Who also did Quarantine) it would appear he had basically the story idea. They then took it to some other dude and had a script made with it while also adding their own tweaks to it. This was made while he was filming The Last Airbender so hopefully that means he had little involvement.

The story idea is - an evil elevator?

That was the plot of a sci-fi channel movie of the week a while back. Wonder which one will be better.

Quarantine was decent. This looks like the same kind of small-scale idea stretched too long to make 90 minutes.

It worked for Sixth Sense (replacing Syfy with Twilight Zone...or wherever the idea came from). Maybe this'll be Shamalama's comeback!

From what I've read, I got the understanding that one of the people on the elevator is evil and/or "the devil", not the elevator itself.  But who knows.

I don't know if this is the sci-fi movie your refering to, but I saw this glorious movie  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Down_(film))one night on HBO.   :awesome_for_real:

Now I've got "Love in an Elevator" stuck in my head.

"YOUR NEXT STOP... IS HELL."

This looks like solid gold, I am so watching it tonight.

You guys bring me the best movies.

Edit: referring to "Down" of course.

From what the director's said the movie is basically this:

5 or 6 people get stuck on an elevator. One of them is evil, possibly the devil himself (though they claimed they didn't make it the Christian devil, but rather, a force of evil.) They talked about shooting it in sequence and how the elevator had all the walls and stuff (ie, it didn't have a wall missing for cameras and such) so the actors actually got claustrophobic as shooting went on which added to the feel of the movie. It sounds like one of those small scale movies that could actually be pretty cool if it is done right. They also mention that as people die the floor space gets more and more compressed since noone wants to stand over a dead body.

What made it even better was that it was listed under its US name, "The Shaft" when I found it.  Flipping through the guide on the TV and seeing that a movie called "The Shaft" was coming on at midnight on HBO set my imagination aflame with thoughts both horrible and great.  I was only slightly let down to see it was a movie about a evil killer elevator.   :awesome_for_real:

Ended up test running this last night, largely due to the fact that it was the shortest movie, at 1hr 35 min including the trailers and I had a lot of other stuff to do.  It came as no surprise that the movie was complete crap.  As a horror movie, it's completely toothless, with the deaths all taking place while the screen is black or with the camera cutting away at the last second.  There's some laughable narration from one of the security guards whose mother used to tell him stories about occurrences like this.  At one point he tries to prove to the cop that's trying to figure out what's going on that the devil is involved.  How does he attempt to do this?  By dropping a piece of toast on the ground and noting that it landed jelly side down.  Apparently when the Devil is around, everything goes wrong, up to and including toast related mishaps and children hitting their heads on the table.  Oh, and the cop?  A plot point from Signs is reused, with the cop going through a crisis of faith after he lost his family in a car accident.  In this case they were killed by a hit and run driver who was never caught.  Do you think that might become relevant towards the end of the movie?  This movie isn't worth watching on any level.

Good enough for me. I wasn't planning on doing anything but maybe buying it on DVD eventually, when I had nothing else to get. Now I can push it off that list.

Yup that's it.

Terrible movie but I watched the whole thing for Naomi Watts. Sounds like it's better than the Watts-free Devil.
