Title: Re: Atlus JP :( Post by: Ard on August 31, 2010, 11:05:00 AM The URL is misleading. They just reabsorbed them into the company as a whole.
Straight from the second paragraph: "The official press release indicates that the Atlus brand will continue, but in what capacity is unclear, at present. The developer has a number of projects in progress, and it is unlikely that those would be shelved in the short term." The only real issue is if they decide to can the developers. Title: Re: Atlus JP :( Post by: Yegolev on August 31, 2010, 11:08:23 AM The only real issue is if they decide to can the developers. A mobile games company used the word "streamline" and absorbed a subsidiary. I'm just not optimistic about further SMT titles at this point. Title: Re: Atlus JP :( Post by: Ard on August 31, 2010, 11:11:36 AM Oh, I'm not being optimistic here, just that game journalists have a really really bad habit of crying wolf and not understanding business related press releases. This could just as easily be the same weird ambling path SOE took when it was SCEA, then Verant, then SCEA, then SOE, then part of Sony Pictures, and now part of SCEA again. On the other hand, this could be another Clover where the whole thing gets sacked. It's hard to say until it shakes out.
Title: Re: Atlus JP :( Post by: schild on August 31, 2010, 11:11:41 AM I better continue seeing the name Atlus on everything.

Quote Update: Atlus staff have confirmed that this "manoeuvring" won't affect the company's game output. "Don't worry, guys. This is just some corporate organisational manoeuvring and won't affect anything we do," wrote Inzaghi on the official Atlus forum. "Atlus is not becoming a mobile games company. The original story doesn't even say that. This is purely a corporate manoeuvre so that Index, which is a mobile games company, has easier access to Atlus IPs. That's all." Seems like a mistranslation combined with a confused meaning, and in reality actually nothing changes. Atlas continues as a brand and as developers. Atlus: Shit, I still need to finishing playing through the Shin Megami Tensei series. Hope they stick around and make good games for a while longer once the dust settles. |
