The last scene with the ship sucking up people, was epic.
Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: KallDrexx on August 12, 2010, 06:47:32 AM I'd watch it.

Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: Typhon on August 23, 2010, 08:18:31 AM It's not a summer movie. Think they'll have the balls to have it end poorly for the humans?
Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: Cyrrex on August 23, 2010, 08:29:59 AM Saw the trailer in the theaters. Looks fun.
Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: DraconianOne on September 29, 2010, 12:14:32 PM New trailer, new terror! Apple site unfortunately: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/universal/skyline/ (http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/universal/skyline/)
Still looks awful but my predilection for alien invasion movies may yet get the better of me. Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: Ironwood on September 29, 2010, 12:26:09 PM Yeah, if this was a book, it'd turn into fucking rapture nonsense.
Let's hope not, eh ? Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: Ironwood on September 29, 2010, 12:36:23 PM OK, I've watched the full trailer. Independance Day with Biomechs.
I eagerly await this thread becoming 20 pages due to the fighting. Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: Lakov_Sanite on September 29, 2010, 12:41:46 PM Looks meh. I do like the giant organic creatures but it really just seems like idependence day 2 and I'm not very interested in that.
Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: HaemishM on September 29, 2010, 05:52:34 PM Not terrible, but reminds me of Independence Day if the invaders were that monster from Cloverfield.
Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: pxib on September 29, 2010, 06:45:18 PM Independence Day was an action movie in the 1970's disaster genre (plucky band of stereotypes work together to save the day). This looks like it's aiming for 1970's survival horror (mismatched band of stereotypes work at cross purposes and are killed off one by one). In the first, the spectacle is seeing things destroyed, and in the second the point is to see people destroyed... both physically and mentally. They're really very different sorts of films.
I agree that the trailers don't make Skyline look particularly good. It'll be deeper than Independence Day (again, largely because of the differences in their genres) but it won't be nearly as much stupid fun. Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: Ratman_tf on September 29, 2010, 08:00:16 PM From the artistic genius of the Strause Brothers, directors of AvP:Requiem comes Skyline - a film about giant alien vacuums from space. Teaser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAOFYp1l5JQ Was that teaser full of static for anyone else? Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: DraconianOne on September 30, 2010, 01:30:40 AM It'll be deeper than Independence Day... An evaporated puddle of piss is deeper than Independence Day. It's a dumbed down War of the Worlds - even down to the aliens being defeated by a virus. But I've ranted about this before. This already looks better than that film. This will shoot to the top of my C.21st alien invasion films if the aliens win and the surviving humans don't get their asses hauled out of the fire by a Deus Ex Machina. Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: pxib on September 30, 2010, 04:04:32 PM An evaporated puddle of piss is deeper than Independence Day. It's a dumbed down War of the Worlds - even down to the aliens being defeated by a virus. No argument... but Independence Day made four metric tons of money. With the budget Skyline is displaying, the movie you want it to be wouldn't make it past test audiences. I don't think there'll be a Deus Ex Machina... my guess is that the aliens are just visiting and after they get what they want, they leave. Humanity gets to picking up the pieces, but THEY MIGHT BE BACK SOME DAY. Ooh.Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: DraconianOne on November 10, 2010, 01:47:00 AM Film opens this weekend.
Despite my initial cynicism, I may go and see it - am absolutely in the mood for some low budget sci-fi trash. (No, I still don't think it's going to be any good - absolutely no previews or reviews this close to release) Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: Ironwood on November 12, 2010, 07:21:32 AM Was this shit or what ?

Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: Sir T on November 12, 2010, 04:32:41 PM Ooh, down to 15% already. Heading for 'Titanic 2' territory...
Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: fuser on November 12, 2010, 05:33:27 PM This was a remarkable troll. Highlight for me was losing it when a friend said vaya con dios 10 seconds before David Zayas, and my uncontrollable laughter when the credits rolled.
Just like the Sentinel UAV in the film this is the little bad movie that somehow dodged all the roadblocks to make it to the big screen. Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: Teleku on November 12, 2010, 11:24:21 PM Jesus, down to 11%. This is heading towards Last Airbender levels of hate.
How the fuck can you make an Alien invasion movie that gets this bad of ratings? Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: 01101010 on November 13, 2010, 05:30:46 AM Jesus, down to 11%. This is heading towards Last Airbender levels of hate. How the fuck can you make an Alien invasion movie that gets this bad of ratings? Well my guess would be people going into the movie looking for a plot instead of just the shinies. edit: Looking at the WIRED discussion (http://www.wired.com/underwire/2010/11/skyline/): Quote io9: Why was it important to make all of the aliens different? Greg Strause: Some of it will be the back story that we want to get into in the next movie, there’s a lot of groundwork that we laid out here. I love when they make a movie and already have the sequel in the works. :oh_i_see: Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: UnSub on November 13, 2010, 07:17:57 AM It's a problem in modern movies - no-one wants to make a film, they want to make a franchise.
... with the franchise usually having the depth and complexity of a D&D game DM'ed by a 12 year old raised on David Eddings novels. Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: Merusk on November 13, 2010, 08:00:05 AM That'd be because the money's not in the movie, it's in the merchandising. Yogurt had it right.
Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: Sir T on November 13, 2010, 09:58:11 AM Oddly, the real father of that idea, George Lucas, made most of the money from the last 3
Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: Merusk on November 13, 2010, 12:17:39 PM I know, amusing isn't it. Part of that failure is that the fuckers are $10 apiece, $7 on 'sale.' :awesome_for_real: The other being.. kids don't seem to play with toys like we did. Too many electronic things and fads aimed at kids these days. I recall my nephews wanting Bakugan and Yu-Gi-Oh cards because that's what their friends played with. I don't think any of them have ever owned an action figure past the age that they were done with Rescue Heroes.
The Clone Wars cartoon stuff seems to be selling well, though. Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: WindupAtheist on November 13, 2010, 12:45:00 PM This only cost $10 million to make. They'll do that in the first weekend alone even if everyone hates it.
Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: Nerf on November 13, 2010, 02:02:58 PM I went in hoping for independance day 2, I got cloverfield 2: not nearly as exciting

I also thought the US military vs the Aliens was well done. . Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: Nerf on November 14, 2010, 12:29:00 AM I also thought the US military vs the Aliens was well done. On the bright side, out of the entire world, it appears aliens only want to attack California (judging by all the movies). Damn we're awesome. Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: Sir T on November 14, 2010, 05:18:40 AM Well it makes a change from attacking New York.
Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: Mrbloodworth on November 14, 2010, 07:39:25 AM How much pointless shaken cam?
Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: Ironwood on November 14, 2010, 07:46:26 AM Well it makes a change from attacking New York. But if that happens, at least we know how to escape from it. The directors of Skyline are the special effects guys for Battle Los Angeles. They apparently didn't tell Sony they were making Skyline for release ahead of B:LA. Talk of a lawsuit. Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: HaemishM on August 19, 2011, 11:20:22 AM Finally watched this movie.
What a boring, flimsy piece of shit. The aliens made no sense. The "plot" was written on the back of a cocktail napkin and left enough room for 16 quadratic equations. This wasn't an alien invasion movie, it was a goddamn zombie apocalypse flick only with aliens instead of zombies. The ending was beyond retarded and also made no sense. I feel all the dumber for having watched it. Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: Ratman_tf on August 22, 2011, 09:35:58 PM I rather liked it. The characters were all various shades of douchebag, the aliens used lens flares to kill people, :drill:, the earth was laid waste and everybody died except for the two main characters, who probably got killed shortly after the credits rolled. And sucking up people's brains to use as computers isn't any dumber than the other movie excuses for an alien invasion flick.
Title: Re: Skyline (2010) Post by: Ironwood on October 07, 2011, 01:27:00 PM Yeah, if this was a book, it'd turn into fucking rapture nonsense. Let's hope not, eh ? So this film finally came to Sky UK and I just had to quote this because, well, damned if I've not hit the nail on the head ; This turned into rapture nonsense. What a fucking obtuse and stupid shitty waste of everyone's time. I'm going to make it clear as others should have made it clear to me : DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE. IT'S AWFUL. |
