Title: Dinner for Schmucks Post by: Raging Turtle on August 09, 2010, 09:58:29 PM I almost walked out of this one about two thirds of the way through, when they HADN'T EVEN GOTTEN TO THE DINNER YET.

But the theater we saw in, everybody was all chuckles throughout… …Mrs. Naum however, did not find it funny at all and in addition to falling asleep at several points in the movie (though she's done that watching other movies too), whispered to me: "when are they going to get to the fireworks factory?"…
…I think the previews (and duh, the title) marketed the movie as /good_laughs at dinner parties, but as pointed out by Raging Turtle, that didn't happen until the end… Without Steve Carel, movie would have been a total dud… …but he plays well, the role of the idiot… Title: Re: Dinner for Schmucks Post by: Yegolev on August 11, 2010, 05:09:43 AM Being somewhat inebriated helped us all a great deal.

I did laugh but I don't watch a ton of comedy so when I do I'm fairly easy. The movie was a trainwreck though and if I had any reason to dislike any of the actors I would have wanted to walk. I think Jemaine from Conchords saved it for me.
Overall though not worth adding to your Netflix queue. Would have been significantly improved if steve carrell would have been stabbed in the face 30 minutes in. Not his fault really, well, maybe a little, but the script is so miserably predictable and unflinching in it's direction (that direction being that steve carrell is an incredibly worthless idiot) with not a moment's relief that I simply couldn't handle it. There is no attempt at pacing or subtlety at any point in the film. I would suggest walking into a brick wall over and over for 90 minutes instead of watching this, as it's quite similar to the effect the movie will have on you, and it's free. After finishing the film, I immediately checked rotten tomatoes to make sure that that 51% score I spotted earlier before seeing a film was not simply a figment of my imagination. WTF.
