I was going to try to wade through the blog war and pull out the interesting parts, but it's a bit complicated.  A little bit here... and little bit there... until you piece together what happened for yourselves.  I'm not one to make jokes at other people's expense.  But I have to wonder:  how much dignity do they really have left that needs protecting, anyway?  Didn't they throw it out there for everybody to see?  Will it even matter?  Will anybody know who they are?

Well, yes and no.  The site in question is not free (the reason I can't link to it directly), so it's only visable to whoever happens to have an account.  Also, there is a small element of anonymity by masses.  It's literally a group that I randomly stumbled into that was made up of a close-knit circle of friends... a party where the shit was about to hit the fan.  Most people would have just watched in silence, but I felt compelled -- perhaps from the increased amount of time I've been spending in the F13 forums -- to weigh in on some things:

"Keep it up."
"Hang in there"
"Oh man, that was so fucked up, the way he treated you",  etc.

They were probably like, "Who is this guy?"  "I don't know.  I thought YOU invited him here."

There's just one more important detail.  When you log in, six profiles of people that live by you are randomly selected.  That's how I found them.  Yes, we all live within a 30 minute drive of each other.  Good old southern California.  At the climax of the emotional turmoil, allegations of torrid Disneyland sex came up.  No, I'm not kidding.

It is located at  Suicide Girls. (http://suicidegirls.com/members/CaptainMorgan77/)  It's kind of like the Yahoo community tools, with the groups and boards and whatnot.  You may be able to imagine that the community is made up of people that are perhaps a little bit edgier than the average crosscut of society.  The kind of people that like lots and lots of body modifications, or at least find beauty in it.  Or, they are like me and just couldn't resist the temptation to take a little peak or two.

There are some real beauties there.  It's in good taste.  You might see a boob here and there, but nothing raunchy.  Something I find fascinating about it is that many of the models are recruited from within the community of users, and when they finally get their own photoshot, it's like a celebration on the chat boards and stuff.  This underlying community, completely hidden until you get an account, is the real strength of the site.  And it's also the original thing that I was supposed to be talking about, in regards to the details of the blog clusterfuck I watched a couple nights ago.

The community is a collection of punks, goths, strippers, models, drunks, and thanks to a link on seanbaby.com, gamers.  Oh, I'm sure you get the normal person too, from time to time.  When you mix them all together, and give each person their own blog, stuff happens.

EDIT: My original comment when bringing the whole thing up is that I couldn't believe the personal stuff people write in their blogs, and how I watched a friendship get ruined because they commented publicly with a virtual audience instead of trying to work it out.

The scary thing is that blog fighting and domestic disputes over virtual space and items will be commonplace in 20 years. With all the predictions that "futurists" and sci-fi writers get into, whether it be flying cars, nanotech, or super duper coffee machines, they never include stuff like this.

Haemish, if you're still writing a cyberpunk novel, make sure to include it.

His public apology to her on his blog is veiled with accusations of her being a slut.  I don't know why he even went there, unless the goal wasn't really to make up after all.

Reminds me of a chess lesson by Josh Waitzkin about "the 2nd mistake". He basically talks about how after you make a mistake, there is tendency to be agitated, reactive....which often leads to another mistake if you aren't careful and focused.

I tried, but I couldn't come up with a clever way to express how fundamentally wrong that is.  The internet is a great way to leverage human stupidity.

Digital convergence on everyday life and whatnot...Today we're still confused that people have carried things like this into the digital realm, or that there's situations like the guy who blew his brains out over EQ, or a guy wants damages paid over a girlfriend deleting characters in Lineage etc., etc..

Tomorrow, unfortunately, this will all be an everyday thing. Though much worse (I fear that the Japanese have already ceased from being "human" already).

Hell, it's barely any more strange than me and you having a "conversation" or "friends" in irc or on a message board. The people above have just gone several steps further, but sooner or later, we'll be right where they are now.

I don't think it will spread out too far because most people are more private about their lives.  Bantering in IRC is much more different than writing about your latest broken heart and putting in a place where thousands of people can read it.

Hell, I have a blog on there too, but the deepest thing I've written about so far is the joys of being drunk.

Since one of my goals is to get drunk with punk rocker chicks, it seemed a logical place to start.

Hmmm, I recently canceled my subscription there. But they just offered me a year for $24.95. Maybe I'll take them up on that. Getting a full site rip really removes the allure from the place.

Drunks, eh? Do wino's count? I certainly do not hate drinking, but I'm probably a little boring compared to the average drunk. If it's out of the glass, I'm "refined", and if I keep a bottle or two for myself, I'll reach a comatose state. Either way, there's no middle ground, and I bypass the "completely shitfaced and pissing myself" stage. It's no fun for others, I think.

I'm not a raging drunk, either.  Mostly it is people looking for new drinks to try, sharing their own recipes, home remedies for hang overs, etc.  Basically, think back to the f13 forums when we had the filtered Vodka thread, beer brewing thread, etc, and imagine about 20 such threads going at once:  that's the forum in DRUNKS.  I see a brand new thread called "Busted: Drunk Pics!" just got started -- that should be good.

Plenty of wine drinkers there, too.

I recently canceled mine also, but 25 bucks for a year... that's quite a bargain compared to their monthly fee.

No, the bad guy was the ex that moved back to Florida (never got to hear from him).  The tragic hero, villian, or jackass -- I don't know anymore, either -- is her male friend/fuck buddy that got her ex's personal info, and after ignoring her plees to not connect himself with her, called him up and demanded to know why he treated her like that.

He got banned yesterday, too.  I didn't get to see what happened.  They probably escalated their blog warfare to the next level and posted each others' personal info, or something.
