Title: Captains of DarkTide Post by: Cadaverine on July 28, 2010, 04:24:15 PM A new game from the developers of Saga.
Quote Dear SAGA Players, Captains of DarkTide is set to launch open beta on August 3rd. Now is the time to hone your skills and become the captain of your own ship. If you have enjoyed SAGA, you are going to love Captains of DarkTide, Silverlode's newest MMO. Set in the SAGA universe, Captains of DarkTide takes place in the future, where an Underworld catastrophe lays waste to the world that was, and floods the surface of Gaia with a vast expanse of seas and oceans. Go to http://www.playdarktide.com and sign up now to get your ship early. Collect troops and cannons, explore a new world, and see the future in this sequel to SAGA. We look forward to seeing you in game! -- Jason Faller, President of Silverlode Interactive From the screenshots on their web site, it looks like PotBS meets Runes of Magic? I dinked around with Saga in the alpha/beta a bit, but I don't really remember much about it. Still, it's f2p, so I'll check it out. Title: Re: Captains of DarkTide Post by: Ghambit on July 28, 2010, 08:49:12 PM I'm in the beta for this. I havent posted about it for a reason.
BUT, it has potential. They make a lot of progress after every patch. Btw, this belongs in the browsergame forum. It is not a traditional MMO. It's a Unity browsergame. (I'm lookin for an NDA before I speak more of it) Title: Re: Captains of DarkTide Post by: DLRiley on July 28, 2010, 09:06:00 PM I'm in the beta for this. The game is basically a high fantasy version of PotBS, only really slimmed down. Your crew (which are upgradeable) run the gamut from human warriors to fire-breathing dragons or daemons. Hulls and ships are obviously upgradeable, along with cannons and other special weapons (like ballista). You also have varying degrees of special abilities that crew, weapons, or yourself can supply (in the usual minibar). Armor is also upgradeable and it's location-based, meaning left and right armor are independent before they get into your hull.
There's no real player market to speak of and the only quests are in the newb zone. After that, it's nothing but grinding mostly to attain achievements. Whole game so far is just basically driving around in your ship killing other ships, strange beasts, or land-based fortresses. They've talked about adding more quests, but only after the game has been more balanced. As betas go, this is practically an alpha... so if you play, dont expect much. Playerbase is very small and the fun is minimal. It's pure testing. If they get a quality questline going, a market, and robust guild support, and perhaps some territorial pvp, it'd be a great game. For now, it's free for a reason. :oh_i_see: Title: Re: Captains of DarkTide Post by: DLRiley on July 28, 2010, 11:21:04 PM Well, there's no NDA that I can find.
