Title: Steam Cloud opt-out?
Post by: Azazel on June 17, 2010, 02:19:29 AM
Just owndering if it's possible to opt-out of steam cloud "support" on individual steam installs? I've got steam on my work laptop, but it pretty much has to live in offline mode. When I bring it home now and then I like to sometimes add a new game or what have you, but the fucking steam cloud updates ruin my shit since I sometimes don't have time for them to finish their endless auto-updates

There's no way to turn off Steam Cloud machine-wide, although most games I've seen have some way of turning it off.

Team Fortress 2 has the option at the bottom of Multiplayer -> Advanced.  (I'd imagine HL2 would have a similar option somewhere.)
Torchlight has a config file tweak (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=13533815#post13533815).

Is it steam cloud that is biting you or product updates? I think you can turn off the latter from your Steam preferences. The Steam Cloud updates should be lightning quick; saved games and settings don't take that long to transfer. You can also stop any transfers inprogress.

Very few games actually use Steam Cloud, so I expect it is the autoupdates causing you issues.

Progress!  From the latest Steam patch:

Added UI to disable Steam Cloud per-game and per-account.

Has that option been added in yet? I don't see it on my current Steam install.
