What time are they releasing the waves? It's Tuesday but I still see Monday.

I believe they change at 10am (pst), 1pm (est), so 2 more hours from now until the new one if I remember when they update right.

If they are planning to do all shooters, this is going to be a very lackluster promotion for someone like me. If they discount Mass Effect 2, however...

I'm sure we'll get "RPG day" with some rather disappointing sales on DA and ME stuff.

I'm tepidly interested in BC2, but 33% isn't what I'd call compelling.

Post by: Segoris on June 15, 2010, 12:52:22 PM
I think the first two days of the sale have been pretty bad, but I also am someone who thinks that there will be RPGs later. I am probably wrong but I don't think they'll put DA and ME on at the same time though. I'm thinking DA and DA:Origins one one day and ME 1 & 2 with any DLC on another day (probably Fri/Sat).

I'm tepidly interested in BC2, but 33% isn't what I'd call compelling.

Agreed, I'm waiting on the Holiday Sale since it will probably be 50% off then. I don't think it will get any lower this year though.

My money's on "Space Day" with ME1, ME2, and Dead Space and "Fantasy Day" with Dragon Age and WAR.

I would wait until they patch BC2 before taking the plunge. Incidentally, the latest patch is over a month late at this point... It's ok though; it's only supposed to fix things like negative mouse acceleration, broken mouse sensitivity bar, broken hit boxes, the spawn system... I'll stop.  :oh_i_see:

A winner is you sir! I thought they'd add Battleforge and call it RTS day, but it is C&C day. Updating main post in a minute, they couldn't be nice and just do a blanket discount on all C&C  :oh_i_see:

ME2 miiiight be able to pull more than $20 out of this cheap bastard's wallet. Hopefully the DA Awakenings is cheap.

I hope thats correct. I have been waiting to pick up Dead Space. Although kind of bummed I missed BF2:BC2.

That's about what I figured. Except I thought Battleforge would be with C&C, I figured they'd put sports games and racing together, and I wasn't sure where Spore would go.

I also am hoping DA: Awakenings is cheap enough to be worth it. If it's more then $20 then it's too much imo (I'm not holding my breath it will go at 50% off though).

sports games
Steam is a pc platform.  :oh_i_see:

Sorry, still bitter about EA buying out the NFL rights (original contract runs out this year, right?) and then shit-canning the pc version of Madden...which was always using the previous year's console engine anyway. Fucking EA.

I never said they were good, which is why I figured they'd make sports day a more bundled event.

I also miss the days before Madden owned the rights to the entire NFL, unfortunately that contract was extended until early 2013 (after the Superbowl in Feb '13), not the end of this year sadly.

Joy. Back to my creaky old Madden 08 with rosters you can barely recognize and based on the PS2/Xbox version. Digging out the xbox and NFL 2k5 is like playing a historical sim these days...even if the engine is better than Madden 08 on the pc  :oh_i_see:

So did everyone who got Mirror's Edge for $5 during xmas like it on PC? I will pick it up this time around. I'd take DA w/ all bells and whistles off their hands for $20 but considering the pricing so far looks like I can continue to pass on it.

It worked just fine on my Windows 7 x64 box.  I think it's a good game and slightly less ruined by its combat than the console version.

It was worth it for the tiny price I paid during the Christmas sale.  Unique game, cool concept, neat artistic style, I haven't bothered to finish it.  Just doesn't quite come together in a way I can put my finger on.  It's a good distraction for awhile.

The steam Command & Conquer forum is fairly amusing. Just a number of threads saying "do not buy C&C 4!" and very little dis-agreement.

You can import other people's saves if you want, too, so you don't have to reply all possible combinations you might want to see.

Dead Space is not worth getting.  The PC controls are that bad, I assure you.

Mirror's Edge is super awesome IMO, especially at $5.  Although I haven't played the PC version.

It seems like some people have had better luck than others, so it's probably hardware-dependent.  For me, it was literally like playing with a defective mouse.  Sensitivity would randomly go up and down and make it incredibly frustrating to aim at things.

I've been pleasantly surprised by Burnout: Paradise.  Not usually much of a racing game fan but I'm enjoying it and was well worth the $8 or whatever it was.

Have to post a screenshot as always, never get tired of it.   :awesome_for_real:

I bought Dead Space and Mirror's Edge. The fucking mouse controls in Dead Space are making the game damn near unplayable. I have tried some of the fixes I found online, it helped a little bit, but still REALLY bad. Im considering asking Steam for a refund.

Controls play pretty well on the PS3.  Only minor issue is that aim and fire are L1/R1 when I just got done playing Red Dead Redemption, which was L2/R2.  Yah, I know this doesn't help you any.  :awesome_for_real:

Yeah, ME2 was on sale for $24 ($5 less than new on Amazon), so I'm going to give it a go. ME1 is well worth it at $5.

Title: Re: EA Week: June 14 - June 21 (Mass Effect Day)
Post by: Kageru on June 19, 2010, 11:21:02 AM

So, let's see.. On a straight conversion ME2 should be 27.60/41.45 Australian dollars (normal versus deluxe) but the actual prices are 41.99/47.99. So strangely enough the deluxe version is better "value" by box price but never been too impressed with the extras they put in. Still, tempting, although I have ME1 sitting around from the xmas sale waiting for some gaming time.

Will probably get one of ME2 or Dragon Age. Deciding which is going to be fun.

I figured since ME is selling on Steam normally for $20, paying less than $25 for ME2 is worth it, since I don't have to wait around for the xmas sale. And for $5, I'll just toss out my ME discs...

I was hoping for a better sale price on ME2.  I'll hold out til the Christmas super-sale.  Although all I bought during last year/s mega-sale was Defense Grid.

So the ME dowload finished, I clicked play. It did the "direct X installation" it seems every game needs from steam then won't load. Even closing steam and trying to open the game through the shortcut won't work. I get the "play Mass Effect" selection box and then it just stops even trying to load.

Don't know if it is a steam thing, or a Mass effect thing, or a Win 7 thing but this is annoying.

So apparently, you have to Run Steam as administrator, then run the ME launcher as administrator too to be able to run the game. Yay.

I remember there being a notice on the store page for ME1 that it required running as Administrator.

It's still down there but buried under System Requirements instead of as a highlighted notice.

Quote
* WINDOWS VISTA OR WINDOWS 7 USERS: Launching “Mass Effect” from Steam requires the setting “Run as Administrator”. If the User Account Control feature of Windows Vista is enabled, launching “Mass Effect” from Steam will result in failure. For users with User Account Control enabled, launch Steam using the “Run as Administrator” option or launch from the windows shortcut.

I used www.gamestracker.com to find a retailer. Usually if any of the other big retailers has it cheap amazon will automatically match the price anyways. One of the problems with discounted prices in the UK is that games has such high RRPs which (I hope) nearly nobody buys games at.

The best deal, imo, is the Digital Deluxe edition + Awakenings. That actually isn't bad and Steam  fucked up by not listing that specifically. Sadly, Awakenings by itself is a shitty deal still at only 25% off so I guess I'm waiting on the holiday sale for that now.

This.  Disappointing deal if you already own the original and are just looking for Awakening.  I just picked up ME2 for 25 bucks,  but I don't feel like paying 30 bucks for an expansion, especially with the vast multitude of games I have yet to play in my steam library.  That's actually a nice side benefit to that fact;  I have tons of patience to wait for better deals.

I don't. Amazon does. They're the only retailer I've seen where their prices are consistently near the lowest other retailer. It seems like their prices also fluctuate according to how the other retailers price their goods. At least that's my impression.

ME for $6? Hell, yeah. I'd read that the PC port was a very different experience from the 360. Now I see that it is. Like a whole new game. Only bad point is it runs in 1280x960 (or some such) and is a touch fuzzy on my 1920x1200 LCD. Other than that minor grouch, I'm liking it a lot...again.

ME2. Well, I've got it. Not sure what I'll do with it. I've played the 360 version to death. Want to see the PC-pumped eye-candy, though, and I suppose I'll fix my screwed up renegade soldier save--finally. The real question will arise when ME3 comes out: PC or 360? Now it's actually a dilemma.

I got ME2 on PC for the ability to edit saves and such, basically.  Being able to use alternate hairstyles and not being forced to play through the entirety of ME1 every time I want to see what happens with a different set of decisions.

Only bad point is it runs in 1280x960 (or some such) and is a touch fuzzy on my 1920x1200 LCD.

You should be able to run it at 1920x1200.   I had the trouble seeing the down arrows to click on for more resolutions when I installed it as well.  They should be there to the lower right of of the box that opens when you select a resolution.

Thanks for that... I'd also missed the scroll buttons on the resolution list. Much better at 1920x1080.

Well, hell yeah. I fiddled with that thing for about 10 minutes and the best I could find was the 1280 and whatever. Motivation!

Hell, I'll have to restart!  :awesome_for_real:
