Title: RIP Gary Coleman
Post by: Samwise on May 28, 2010, 12:27:42 PM
What, no thread yet?

http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/05/28/gary-coleman-actor-and-former-child-star-dies/

Not sure what else to say.  I grew up watching Diff'rent Strokes, so it's a bit strange and depressing that 2/3 of the kids from that show are now dead.  You'll be missed, Gary.

Gary dead?  What you talkin' bout Willis?

Sorry, I had to.   :uhrr:

It's depressing to see people about the same age as I am die.

I had forgotten Dana Plato was gone too.   :uhrr:

RIP Gary.

Sad.

I bet you could have gotten some sweet odds on Todd Bridges outliving the other two, once upon a time. Why the hell do parents get their kids into acting young? It really seems to take a toll on happiness and longevity.

What about Conrad Bain? He still alive (age 87, according to Wikipedia) and may still outlive Bridges…

Hospitalized after an injury?  I'd heard brain hemorrhage earlier.. sounds like a hell of a fall.  The sad fact is I"m expecting to hear it was related to yet another domestic disturbance.

Poor guy never really knew what to do with himself.  At least he's no longer got any problems.

I mentioned this at work when someone brought this up (I had not heard Gary had died until that point) that I noticed on Wikipedia yesterday that it was Todd Bridges' birthday.

Maybe he had an evil birthday wish?

All joking aside, seeing "child stars" die due to the self-destructive lifestyle hollywood puts them into at a young age is saddening.

"Different Strokes"  will always mean something completely different to me now.

This one probably shouldn't be chalked up to child star whatnot - dude had a ton of medical problems that had nothing to do with any of that.

Thing I read said it was a fall.

I will never forget you, Abubaka.

I think Gary got screwed more because of health problems and the fact his parents spent all the money he made on Different Strokes.  I don't blame Hollywood as much when it comes to Coleman.

I think he now knows what Willis was talking about all those years.  :uhrr:

How long till this becomes a domestic abuse murder, considering the history with his batshit crazy wife?

His time was too short.

I think my favorite Coleman character was Gary James on Good Times. Just looking it up on IMDB, he was only on the show for two episodes, but I could have sworn it was more. He was a riot bursting into the scene trying to act all tough and macho and damn near laughing out loud doing it. Poor little dude had a fucked up life and didn't deserve one minute of it.
