Isaac Clarke is... TONY STARK. Man, way to put a major plot spoiler in the teaser trailer. (I eagerly await a game poking fun at futuristic games featuring multi-panel, automatically collapsing / forming helmets.) I'm 1 achievement off the full 1000 for Dead Space, so I'm looking forward to Dead Space 2 and how they progress the series. Maybe they'll give the protagonist more Also: Dead Space is, overall, a better experience than BioShock. I'll give BioShock has better level design, but that's about the only place it surpasses DS. So it's sad that BioShock got all the accolades while DS is recognised as a great game few people played. Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: schild on April 28, 2010, 07:33:50 PM Dead Space got game of the year from us.
Bioshock did not. Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Kitsune on April 28, 2010, 11:18:41 PM Dead Space didn't supremely impress me. It had interesting features, but felt too linear, and I was hoping for more exploration/secret-finding in the mix.
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: LK on April 28, 2010, 11:52:15 PM Too linear seems to be a trait of these games starting back to Resident Evil. Bioshock was particularly heinous in how every area featured a hub area that branched off into different sections. I guess it would make sense given the underwater construction...
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Samwise on April 29, 2010, 12:08:06 AM Dead Space seemed like it could have been a pretty good game if I were able to play it without wanting to put my mouse through my monitor. :why_so_serious:

Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: LK on April 29, 2010, 02:27:55 PM No more novels.
No more animes. Dead Space 2: Canon That Fucking Matters Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: UnSub on April 30, 2010, 02:42:23 AM Saw the trailer on Xbox Live. Nice, and reflects the point that if you lived through the events of Dead Space, you'd never ever sleep ever again.
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: jakonovski on April 30, 2010, 02:51:16 AM I never actually finished the original, the final boss was so annoying that I was content to just sell the game and watch the ending on Youtube. But despite all that, the more I think about the new game, the more I want to return to the universe.
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Special J on April 30, 2010, 10:10:32 AM More Deadspace? Yes please.
When someone asks me for a suggestion on a good cheap XBox game I always tell them Deadspace. No one has been unhappy yet. Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: ffc on April 30, 2010, 10:36:29 AM Dead Space totally immerses me in its world within seconds of playing. Consequently I found it too terrifying to continue past half way. I look forward to / dread number two.
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Teleku on April 30, 2010, 11:10:13 AM Hmm, been really wanting to play Dead Space, but been waiting for it to show up on a weekend deal on steam. May have to just pay the full price and try it though.
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Samwise on April 30, 2010, 11:14:15 AM Don't get it on the PC IMO. You can't imagine how fucked up the mouselook is. Imagine playing CS while some fucker changes your mouse sensitivity every few seconds.
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Special J on April 30, 2010, 12:11:15 PM A console copy shouldn't set you back more than 20 bucks.
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Teleku on April 30, 2010, 12:56:07 PM Hmm, guess I'll look into that then.
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Strazos on April 30, 2010, 07:08:05 PM This has been the first game to legitimately creep me out of playing it.
Also looking forward to/dreading Dead Space 2. Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: LK on April 30, 2010, 09:57:18 PM I am surprised they allowed Z-Fighting to make it into the background of their teaser trailer.
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Fabricated on April 30, 2010, 11:32:37 PM I'm hoping they don't do what they did to the RE series and take the story into some ridiculous tangent with lots of various factions and shadowy conspiracies.
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: UnSub on May 01, 2010, 12:07:24 AM One disappointment I had with DS was the narrative - I was expecting some sort of twist that wasn't obvious, yet that's exactly what was served up. Sadly, the 'shadowy conspiracy' angle is all there, ready to go.
Not sure if people saw this before, but some limited in-game footage exists of DS2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8VX7jZJl4Y). Iron Man indeed, but it looks like they are trying to make Clarke a lot less clunky than he was in the first game. Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: ffc on January 27, 2011, 02:46:36 AM /necromorph
I'm about an hour in on PS3. Feels faster and more action oriented than the first which makes it more fluid and exciting. I don't remember nodes and cash being all over the place but I do remember the feeling of dread and being jumpy; my heart got pumping from the very first scene. Some of the scares are F.E.A.R.ish hallucinations which I don't care for (only liked the ones in Eternal Darkness) but they are quite scary. Isaac is now talking. His voice acting is good and it allows for more character development but mute Isaac had his own charm. I still don't like stomping on boxes for items like foot piņatas. Multiplayer looks to be like Left 4 Dead with Isaacs vs. Necromorphs, monsters able to see through walls, etc. EA online code required outside of two day trial. :oh_i_see: Will try it later. Overall the heebie-jeebies are strong so far. Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Surlyboi on January 27, 2011, 04:56:02 AM Hated. HATED the first one, with a capital hate. The camera was counterintuitive as fuck for me.
That said, the storyline is awesome and the universe is deep. I started playing the iPad version and it made up for my disdain for the original. Bought two and will start playing it as soon as I finish my latest ME2 run through. Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Lantyssa on January 27, 2011, 08:06:51 AM Watched over Vu's shoulder. It's well done.
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Muffled on January 27, 2011, 01:19:25 PM Hated. HATED the first one, with a capital hate. The camera was counterintuitive as fuck for me.... Was there anything else in particular that turned you off about it, or was the camera just a big enough PITA that you never got past it? Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: MournelitheCalix on January 27, 2011, 08:10:30 PM I enjoyed Dead space greatly up until the final levels when it just seemed to get a bit too long. I hope this time they add some more interaction besides the legion of things you have to slice and dice. Oh and more ammo please.
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Paelos on January 27, 2011, 08:14:50 PM The "Your Mom Hates This" ad campaign for the game got a chuckle out of me.
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Surlyboi on January 27, 2011, 11:34:06 PM Hated. HATED the first one, with a capital hate. The camera was counterintuitive as fuck for me.... Was there anything else in particular that turned you off about it, or was the camera just a big enough PITA that you never got past it? Just the goddamn camera. If I could've played it more like Mass Effect 2, I would've eaten that shit up. The game itself is engrossing as fuck, the control scheme just made me want to poke forks in my eyes. Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Ironwood on January 28, 2011, 03:32:11 AM Mouse Control. Never finished it.
:oh_i_see: Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Rasix on January 28, 2011, 06:09:12 AM Control was great on the PS3. :awesome_for_real:
Looking forward to playing this.. when it gets cheaper. Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Teleku on January 28, 2011, 01:36:15 PM I actually picked up the first game at some fractional price on a steam sale. Its very well done and fun, though I do understand the complains about the mouse control. However, I guess I'm more patent than most people here, as I just told myself, "Eh, deal with it." Been playing it a bunch, am almost at the end, and had a great time all along the way (though I have no cash or ammo left...).
Having said that I'll probably buy the 2nd game for my PS3, but I don't regret the PC purchase. Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Samwise on January 28, 2011, 01:41:17 PM I made the mistake of buying it at full price after hearing rave reviews on it, so I was VERY bitter about the poor mouse controls. A shame because if the controls had been marginally less shitty I think I would have loved it.
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Ironwood on January 28, 2011, 02:18:18 PM Yes.
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: kildorn on January 28, 2011, 04:23:10 PM Rented this, since the first one annoyed me to sin, but I keep hearing it's awesome.
So far, seems far less creepy/scary than round 1, but I just hit chapter 2. Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Morfiend on January 28, 2011, 04:48:12 PM I made the mistake of buying it at full price after hearing rave reviews on it, so I was VERY bitter about the poor mouse controls. A shame because if the controls had been marginally less shitty I think I would have loved it. I bought it on Steam for $10 and I am still bitter about the controls. Can anyone tell me if DS2 contorls better on the PC than the first one did. I am still amazed they managed to make a 3rd person game unplayable with M+KB. Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Lantyssa on January 28, 2011, 07:08:48 PM I asked and I'm told it's better. They also said make sure v-synch is off in the first one, as that caused massive problem.
That's all second hand, without much additional explanation. YMMV. Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: UnSub on January 28, 2011, 09:47:13 PM I actually picked up the first game at some fractional price on a steam sale. Its very well done and fun, though I do understand the complains about the mouse control. However, I guess I'm more patent than most people here, as I just told myself, "Eh, deal with it." Been playing it a bunch, am almost at the end, and had a great time all along the way (though I have no cash or ammo left...). Ammo drops (usually) based on the weapons you are carrying, so only carry a few weapons at a time. Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Teleku on January 28, 2011, 11:45:31 PM Hmm, didn't think about that. I mean, I noticed that the ammo drops seemed to be based on what I was carrying, but it never occurred to me to just carry fewer weapons than the maximum, heh. Considering I only really use 2'ish, that would have worked out nice....
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Velorath on January 31, 2011, 07:24:17 PM Got Dead Space 2 on the PC. Never played the PC version of the first one, but so far I haven't had too many problems with the controls. The only real issue I have is trying to use stasis or kenesis in the heat of battle, but iirc I had similar issues on the console with the first game. Aside from that, so far it's more of the same. I'm only a couple hours in, but so far the gameplay and monsters are all ripped directly from the first game. That's not a terrible thing, as I loved Dead Space, but I expected more from the dev team than just a rehash of the first game, with a somewhat worse story (I'm not really diggin' the whole "you're going insane" stuff).
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Surlyboi on January 31, 2011, 07:34:17 PM Not going. Gone.
Issac is batshit by the time the game starts. But that's what saves him and keeps him from completely losing his shit through the course of it. That said, I like it better than the first. The fixed the camera. It's not as scary though. Definitely an Alien/Aliens vibe. Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: kildorn on January 31, 2011, 09:14:42 PM I appreciate that Issac's personality is shaped by the events in the first game. He may be a little nuts now, but he's also pretty hardened and not really terrified anymore. It's more of a "what? This shit again? Alright FINE, someone give me a gun and I'll deal with it." especially as the game progresses and he gets progressively more fed up with the whole series of events.
I do wonder why the security forces were slaughtered though. The pulse rifle is awesome this time, you pansies. Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Surlyboi on February 01, 2011, 09:36:19 PM Finished it a little while ago. I liked the story a lot. And I'm echoing the sentiment that the pulse rifle is kickass. Sprawl security must suck something awful. Oh wait, yeah, they do. I fucked them up something awful too.
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Speedy Cerviche on February 03, 2011, 07:48:41 AM good lord this game has an embarrassing advertising campaign.
yourmomhatesthis.com?? smashing pumpkins ironic rage song?? talk about tryhards, barf Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Ironwood on February 11, 2011, 12:24:25 PM Finally found a solution to the Dead Space one mouse problem that rendered it playable. I have now completed it and I was actually quite impressed, despite myself.
I may get the second one now. Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Sky on February 11, 2011, 12:29:44 PM Finally found a solution to the Dead Space one mouse problem that rendered it playable. Spill, baby, spill!Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Ironwood on February 12, 2011, 01:28:09 AM Um, Sorry, I just assumed with the age, people would know :
Turning off/on VSync in the game made no difference to me, nor mouse sensitivity, but what worked for me was using the ATI control panel (Nvidia has it's own that works) to mess with the AA and Vsync settings directly, ticking the 'override shitty application settings'. This is still a little wanky in some smaller areas with massive 'roll and roll and roll the mouse' effects, but on the whole, it works quite well and makes it playable. I suspect if it fixed the mouse look completely, it would make a perfect game, since it's actually quite a good remake of System Shock 2. :why_so_serious: That said, part of me thinks if the controls were perfect, the actual game would be way too easy; Currently replaying with the combat suit and all upgrades and, frankly, it's a bit of a joke. Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Sky on February 12, 2011, 07:52:34 AM Gracias. I'll bump that one up in the queue now.
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: FatuousTwat on February 13, 2011, 11:02:47 PM Has anyone seen a subbed, non-blind LP of this yet?
Not really my type of game to play, but I'd like to watch it. Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: tgr on February 14, 2011, 06:23:03 AM since it's actually quite a good remake of System Shock 2 Now I'm doubly bitter over the "INTERNET CONNECTION REQUIRED" bullshit. :oh_i_see:Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Rasix on February 14, 2011, 10:08:57 AM Well for Dead Space 1, you've got a near deserted ship, bad dead things coming after you, a story told mostly through logs, upgradeable weapons, "powers", etc. For some reason, however, I'd consider this about as close to a System Shock 2 remake as Bioshock managed: not very. I'm not sure something so on rails and combat heavy could be considered as such. Still a fantastic game and very worth playing.
Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Ironwood on February 14, 2011, 10:11:32 AM It's System Shock 2 crossed with Resident Evil 4.
In other words, it's rather good if you like derivative games. That's not a criticism as I quite liked it once I could play it. Bioshock, alas, isn't really a good comparison in my view, even though it's got shops and shit. The 'powers' are limited to your Jedi pulling Shit and your Matrix slow time shit. No shooting out Bees here. Internet connection required ? Um, I didn't get that... Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: ffc on February 19, 2011, 01:15:41 AM Oh boy. Do not want to go forward.
I was about to rage quit near the end of Chapter 9. Died many times in the cargo area and the area after that was a bit frustrating as well. Otherwise my love for this game goes beyond the scares and at this point I would be happy just floating around its zero gravity environments cleaning space windows. Title: Re: Dead Space 2 Post by: Velorath on February 19, 2011, 01:28:51 AM Good chapter there. All in all I liked the game, but it wasn't a huge leap from the first one.
