Title: Cloudapp - Because dropbox is so complicated Post by: Morfiend on April 05, 2010, 11:16:49 AM CloudApp (http://www.getcloudapp.com/). Lifehacker review. (http://lifehacker.com/5508611/cloudapp-instantly-shares-any-file-is-my-new-favorite-timesaver)
OS X Only. Pretty neat, its sort of like a simplified version of dropbox with drag and drop uploading, and it copies the web url directly in to your clipboard. I am trying it out now. Title: Re: Cloudapp - Because dropbox is so complicated Post by: Engels on April 05, 2010, 02:43:56 PM Uhm, the iPhone Dropbox app has a drop down menu item titled,"copy link to clipboard".
Really, if Dropbox is too hard for you, you probably struggle with ATMs and subway ticket dispensers as well. We promised you an application that makes sharing files with your co-workers and friends super easy. Well its coming. We are releasing CloudApp on April 1st. Title: Re: Cloudapp - Because dropbox is so complicated Post by: Samwise on April 05, 2010, 03:22:30 PM "Drag and drop uploading" is Dropbox. I'm not sure how this thing could be any simpler.
Title: Re: Cloudapp - Because dropbox is so complicated Post by: NiX on April 05, 2010, 03:29:37 PM It uploads everything. If you didn't want it uploaded, you'll figure out how to get rid of it.
Title: Re: Cloudapp - Because dropbox is so complicated Post by: schild on April 05, 2010, 03:32:17 PM I have to assume the subject of the topic is sarcasm simply because you'd have to be fundamentally retarded to not "understand" dropbox.

Dropbox without that bothersome context menu?

Winner. Anyway. Its pretty neat for just uploading random crap you dont want cluttering your dropbox. You drag a file to the icon in your taskbar, and Cloudapp automatically puts the web URL in your clipboard. Its almost impossible to fuck up. And yeah, I am a slut for Dropbox. Title: Re: Cloudapp - Because dropbox is so complicated Post by: Samwise on April 05, 2010, 08:14:30 PM You drag a file to the icon in your taskbar, and Cloudapp automatically puts the web URL in your clipboard. OIC. That is kinda nice. Does it have its own hosting, or is it just a wrapper around something like tinypic? Title: Re: Cloudapp - Because dropbox is so complicated Post by: Morfiend on April 06, 2010, 08:16:07 AM From their site. (http://www.getcloudapp.com/)
Quote CloudApp is powered by Heroku and Amazon's Simple Storage Service. Files are redundantly stored on multiple devices across multiple storage facilities preventing data corruption and loss. Its almost impossible to fuck up. Honestly, for the things I use Dropbox for, that would be annoying. Wiping out whatever I had in my clipboard is bad. If I want the link, ill get it. I also highly prefer the public and non public system of Dropbox. Not saying that others would not have other uses where this is good for them. Title: Re: Cloudapp - Because dropbox is so complicated Post by: Viin on April 06, 2010, 09:32:23 AM I like that it uses Amazon's cloud, not sure what Dropbox uses.
The only thing I'd like to change with Dropbox is what files/folders are synced to my computer. I don't really need *all* files synced, just the ones I'm editing from multiple computers - otherwise I can download that b!tch when I need it. (As your dropbox usage goes up, do you really wanna sync 2gigs of crap to your brand new laptop when half of it is for sharing with the internets?) Amazon CDN. Nearly everything useful uses Amazon.
