Fun in the vein of Kung-Fu Panda, well-produced and entertaining.  Not super deep, but enjoyable.  And mildly surprised me by being daring at the end, at least daring by today's standards for animated movies.

Same basic narrative line as Kung Fu Panda, but a better film in quite a few respects. I'm very glad that Dreamworks Animation dropped the cute-animals-make-many-pop-culture-jokes thing that they were wallowing in for a while. This is still formula, but it's a very palatable, entertaining and sometimes moving formula. Much better animation as well in terms of making it stylized and visually engaging. I enjoyed this much more than I expected to.

My kids (8 & 6) came back from seeing it in 3d and absolutely loved it.  They aren't telling me too much about it because apparently I have to watch it now, and they don't want to spoil it for me.

I was completely blindsided by the reviews being so overwhelming on this flick. May have to foist Clash out of it's seat as the movie for date night this weekend.

Took my three year old daughter, we both loved it but it does not need to be seen in 3d imo. Didn't seem to be a whole lot of 3d elements to it. Definitely worth seeing on the big screen though.

Just watched it with my 3.5 year old, we both liked it a lot. The only real complaint was all the vikings had Scottish accents except for the two that sounded like Jack Black doing a slightly different Jack Black voice.

I also thought the thing with Hiccup at the end was pretty interesting for a kids movie.

My kids also liked this, but they might have been a shade young for some of the tense / dramatic bits.

Personally I thought the main character was a bit overdone for the 1st half of the film - it could have been called, "Woody Allen's How To Train Your Dragon" given all the self-doubt whining.

The imagination on display for the dragons was good and the Night Fury (that black dragon who appears in all the trailers) is superb in terms of characterisation through its animation.

Also: 3D added a lot to this film. Especially the flying scenes.

Overall though, not bad. Certainly not adult brain-killing like some kids' films.

Dreamworks usually does very well with their movies, as long as it's not a Shrek sequel.

A very good movie, I'm glad I saw it, and the 3d effects when I noticed them were nice.

The only thing I thought was missing was Berk yelling "PULL UP PULL UP!" at some point when he was training his dragon.

Also the end result for Berk was a surprise and a nice change from what typically happens.

Two thumbs up from the kido & me. 

Saw this with the girl yesterday (her brother worked on the lighting so pretty much had to) and we both enjoyed it a lot.  Well worth the money to see it in theater, and I thought the 3-D was worth it as well.  Best 'kids' movie I've seen in long while.

Got this last night on netflix, my son started off "I don't wanna watch this. I want. More land of the lost" Then we got a bit more in and he was hooked. He cried at the end thinking hicccup was dead.

I thought it was better than kung-fu panda. Would have really been good in the theater.

Note this is the 1970s land of the lost and not the horrid movie.

I too saw this on Netflix a little while back and was very pleasantly surprised.

Stuff it Chaka.

Saw it recently with my kid too.  It's about the first animated movie in the past 10 years I'd consider buying, good movie tied in with excellent dragon design made it awesome for me.

The studio is supposed to have the licence for the full book franchise, so there is a chance we may see a sequel at some point.  Though from what I understand, they took a lot of liberties with the original source material, so it is hard to say what a sequel might actually be like.

As an adult, I genuinely enjoyed this film.

It's one for the blu-ray collection for sure.
