Title: Name my dog
Post by: Nerf on February 15, 2010, 07:14:34 PM
The girlfriend and I are getting a puppy here in a few weeks, and we need a name for it.  The problem is of course we both spend hours sitting at an MMO char creation screens trying to think one up, so we need some help on this one.

Unfortunately, I can't name it Nerf :(

Fippy.
Seconded.  In fact, I move we close the nominations.

It's a blue merle miniature australian shepherd with 2 blue eyes, should be around 15lbs fully grown.  We may end up with a black tri instead, it depends on if this one is breedable.

Yup, you must name the dog Fippy now...sorry.

Hey, it could be worse. Someone in my family named their dog "Kitty." I have no fucking idea where they came up with that one.

Yes Fippy Barkpaw has a nice ring to it (can't use Darkpaw cause his paws aren't, uh, dark). He's even the same color as Fippy (not including the white). :awesome_for_real:

Shitmaster 5000.   :awesome_for_real:

How about, "GODDAMNITDON'TPISSONTHECARPET!"?

You could name it 'Bark Country' but then Schild would come over to your house and take his ball the dog away.

"Licked Outta Goonswarm"?

PrideOfUSA  :uhrr:

Though, I think you should just name it ALLCAPS.

I'd let him name it Bark Country.

Spacefag would be better though.

Don't be silly.  I have a black cat named Magenta.  You're named Trippy and I bet you're not ever on acid.  Look at Nerf's name.  Never mind.  That one fits, actually.

I like Fippy, too, although I wouldn't bother with a surname.  Bent and Spacefag are also quite nice.  If you're going to show it, it's probably better for all those to be affectionate nicknames.  Of course since it's Australian, you could get away with giving it a name like Boing Boing or Humpybong.

People names for dogs just seem weird to me, with the exception of Einstein, but since he's not a corgi or a corgi mix, that would just feel wrong.

The dog is clearly communicating with a prop that his name is Matt and getting very frustrated that humans are too stupid to understand. Re-examine the photos with this in mind.

15 lbs? My cat weighs 15 lbs!

I always liked using the names of famous companions/helpers/sidekicks from literature. I had a dog named Starbuck when I was in college.

Some other good ones:

Littlejohn, Samwise, Friday, Watson, Patroclos

Here's a good list of dog names from literature:

Krypto. Then buy him a little red cape to wear.

More seriously I really like Fippy, even if I didn't recognise where I knew the name from till someone mentioned EQ. I think it's a cool name for a pet.

I've got nothing against him, he's a reasonably funny guy. I used to (and still do, sometimes) read his comic. It's a pretty good way to waste 45 seconds. What of it?

I can enjoy PvP once in a blue moon when he decides to do a comic based on computer games rather than a super-intelligent cat trying to kill Santa Claus.

So I really want to call him Skwisgaar Skwigelf, but the girlfriend thinks the name is too hard to say.  Skwizzie is an awesome name for a blue eyed little hyper furball.

Toki is out because it sounds like a name a couple of potheads would call their dog.

On a more serious note, I usually like to give pets "people names", like Larry or Ted.  There was a Shih Tzu named Barry at the vet the other day.  I about shit myself.

Well, it...looks like a rabbit. So, Rabbit? Lapin?

I've been trying to convince the wife to let me name our next dog Gozar. Especially if it's a labrador. Or Slor, if it's one of those big drooly dogs. But Gozar is awesome.

I'd suggest Buzz Killington, but that's really more of a cat's name.

I lived in a basement suite once under a Fijian family. They named their dog Johnny.
