Title: Dante's Inferno
Post by: schild on February 10, 2010, 02:08:52 AM
Way too lazy to find that old thread from the announcement. Played through 3 circles and the descent now. Gotta admit, enjoying the shit out of it. Sure, it's a total bastardization of The Inferno and a total Knockoff of God of War - but whatever, Visceral has got their shit together. The art and sound are absolutely top notch and the combat is way more than passable. If you didn't pick up Bioshock 2 today, I'd suggest getting this. I actually stopped playing Bioshock 2 because this was so much better than I expected.

I'm waiting on screenshots of the lake of sinners.

This has been on and toward the top of my list since playing the demo which very much gave me the God of War vibe, in a good way. In my opinion the superbowl commercial did not do this game justice. They should have thrown in some actual gameplay footage, I could care less if it was the proper audience for it.

Am following this. I'm curious how the favorable impressions hold up through the game. The reviews that I read - being a big GoW fan myself and thus very interested - point out that the similarities and the quality in level in and enemy design take a turn for the worse in the second half of the game, with the last stretch feeling very rushed.

Played the demo quite a bit ago, the "cinematics" are top notch, and the art is so well done. Thumbs up.

My favorite part of Gods of War was the bosses. The huge game-sized puzzles like Getting Pandora's Box were, you know, not bad, but paled in comparison to other bits (especially now that I've played Demon's Souls - which has vastly superior level design). Parts of Dante's Inferno feels like a boss rush compared to God of War. The "Levels" just feel like bits between beating the shit out of a major storyline demon, which was a pretty goddamn good way to go about it if you ask me.
