Title: Re: Deep frying a turkey Post by: ghost on November 25, 2009, 04:11:26 PM Yeah, my buddy that has done a couple told me to "dry it the fuck off". I'm assuming he's had issues with that.
I whipped up a bit of a homemade injection 1/2 cup butter 2 tbsp kosher salt 2 tbsp black pepper 2 tbsp white pepper 2 tbsp garlic powder 1/4 tbsp cayenne pepper 1 tbsp chili powder 1 tbsp paprika 2 tbsp brown sugar I'll let you know how it goes :why_so_serious: Title: Re: Deep frying a turkey Post by: Trippy on November 25, 2009, 05:37:18 PM Read from here for a page or so. Title: Re: Deep frying a turkey Post by: Lantyssa on November 25, 2009, 10:31:16 PM I'd recommend stirring the oil a bit before putting the turkey in, too. One problem is super-heating the oil. Basically it gets above boiling, but because of a lack of convective currents it heats up past it. Then when the liquid is disturbed, all the boiling which should have happened does so at once. *fwoosh*
Just be careful with the stirring, too. Don't put your face, or body parts, over the oil in case insertion of the stirrer acts as a seed. Title: Re: Deep frying a turkey Post by: Chimpy on November 26, 2009, 07:31:24 AM TURN OFF the flame at the time of turkey insertion.
Title: Re: Deep frying a turkey Post by: ghost on November 26, 2009, 09:21:21 AM TURN OFF the flame at the time of turkey insertion. This sounds like a terribly good idea. I'm glad you mentioned it, because I wouldn't have. Title: Re: Deep frying a turkey Post by: ghost on November 26, 2009, 09:12:58 PM Okay. So finished it up and everything went smooth. No burning down the house or any disasters at all, really.
The above recipe was pretty good. Not too spicy and gave a hint of flavor. If you want something more flavorful I would try something else, though. As compared against a regular turkey it was much more juicy and tender- and the other one was damned good. |
