If you're going as a pimp, hit a vintage clothing store.  It'll look better than a fake costume and some if the clothes might even be rewearable.

I'm finally making a RenFest outfit based on the old WAR Disciple concept art, which will probably double as my Halloween outfit this year.

Growing my beard out for a month and going as a 1-armed Vietnam vet. Ain't nothing scarier in Austin than a Vietnam vet. You know what I mean if you've ever been downtown in the afternoon. Alternatively, I thought as going as a Green Peacer.

This probably tops the list of the most un-PC one I have ever seen....

Cops, pimps, school girls - everything is so common.  It's not worth it.  You should just stay in, lock the doors, turn the lights in the front of the house off and eat giant bowls of candy in front of the telly.

I was thinking more along the lines of kicking back with my fiancee, cozying up with a good book in front of the fireplace.

The guy I split the house with gives out freshly cooked bacon strips at Halloween. Not many kids stop by, but they seem happy.

That has been my Halloween for the last 20 years.

Edit:  I may actually dress up like Mr. Tron over here in my avatar picture.  It would be sweet to be able to display my moose knuckle.  If you want a laugh, google moose knuckle and look at the images tab.  It is fucking hysterical.

I thought it'd be kinda funny to just do my makeup so it looks like my old man worked me over real good. Extra funny since I'm 8 months pregnant.

You'd complete that outfit by wearing spandex saddle pants that are 2 sizes too small, a spaghetti strap tank with a clashing-color bra and carrying a cig and bottle of Jack Daniels, VD.  That'd be fantastic.

Wear some clothes that are clearly costume but that don't appear to be a costume - like punk jeans, a fur lined pimp coat and a glengarry hat. Then whenever anyone asks who you're supposed to be pick a very obscure figure and act indignant and incredulous that they don't recognise you. "I'm the drummer from Then Jericho! I can't believe you didn't get that!"
