I was really taken in by the artistry demonstrated in the combined media formats. While on the surface, the entire production appears to be a rather advanced but juvenile ploy to shoot some pornography and disguise it as mainstream art; the true meaning found in the piece shows Rammstein's social consciousness via musical commentary about the instant gratification cultural addiction to ones own self that we all share.

The song itself wasn't bad.  The video was different though.  I didn't expect the full-on porn ending.  Figured they'd keep with the tease show instead.

You may well do. What you watched involved digital compositing. Most of the guys in Rammstein are married and have kids. Flake isn't transgender (as far as I know) and certainly doesn't have those boobies. The video was by the same guy that did Prodigy's "Smack My bitch Up".

watched it again last night, called up a friend who lived in Germany for a number of years (I dunno maybe he knows the secret German handshake) and told him to watch it.  That resulted in a very angry call from his very Catholic wife  :why_so_serious:.

I suppose, once again, my expectations were too high.

Mine weren't.  I was expecting boobs.  I only kinda got what I wanted.  The things one will put up with to get to the shiny. 

On a non-boob related level, the music just isn't that interesting.

Yeah, I didn't think the song was as horrible as everybody is making it out to be.  It wasn't great, just sounded rather generic.  Actually, it pretty much sounded like every other Rammstein song, just not as catchy as some.

Which, if the point is that most rock anthems are stupid, well, there are much more interesting ways to do that. But hey, boobies.

It sounded like they were parodying Krautrock by just throwing out German stereotypes 'Bratwurst und Sauerkraut', 'Autobahn' etc. My German still isn't very good and I haven't listened to the song enough to get a grip on the lyrics but it doesn't sound as though they are actually saying anything.

Well, I understood it more as a statement against (maybe for ?  :awesome_for_real: ) German sex tourism.

He seemed to be doing that deliberately - I think it must be for an American audience. The words picked were mostly ones that Americans would actually recognize ("Hey, he said Fahrvergnügen and sauerkraut! I TOTALLY CAN SPEAK GERMAN TOO!")

The German lyrics were as deep as the English ones.  Maybe less, so.

It's not all that bad.  It's Rammstein.  Even their bad songs are better than most other dance metal band's good songs.  Anyway, I can't look at that video.  I don't mind sexy but I hate porn.  It would be better if people just talked about it instead of trying to make us watch them.  I have a terrible memory for words so it's easier to forget.

God, I love these guys.

They are a classic example of a counter culture band that takes cover behind provocations and loud music to express their instinctive distaste of the pressure put on people to perform in society.
Or as we say, they are a bunch of punks.

You can't expect them to put the subtilities of an Ungaretti or Szymborska in their lyrics but if you care to listen to what they're saying you notice their somewhat crude metaphors tend to be very poetic and are almost fragile in the way describe life.

Anyway, if you care to look beyond the pron, the song is about the constraints society has put on men without regard of their biological need to disperse their dna. Although I'd image there are some other ways to summarise that.

The album is out now in Europe and it rawks! I recommend the two disc version, it's totally worth it. For true connoisseurs, there's the collector's edition with six dildos.
