Given the coffin in the second pic, I'm going to describe this as "If Toriyama wasn't an uncreative schmuck, we might get a Dragon Warrior like this." Also, it might actually have some decent goddamn game design compared to, well, every Dragon Warrior ever.

What, just like Demon's Souls? COMEON NOW.

We had to wait 8 MONTHS for Demon's Souls to gain momentum and brave the high seas of translation. That's an epoch in the hustle and bustle of my gaming timeline. I was hoping they would recognize the awesomeness and work on a simultaneous release.

From Software is pretty hit or miss (actually the misses have been fairly frequent).  The screenshots look nice, but it's going to take more than that to get me excited.

While I have zero interest in the subject matter, that does look pretty cool.

I dunno, I mean I get it, it's an 8 bit JRPG in 3-D, it's cute.  But, uh, yeah, at this point it's just cute.  Sure, it will probably have some meta-8 bit JRPG humor but otherwise?  What?

I liked Tenchu Z and Demon's Souls, and I liked A Link To The Past... peanut butter and chocolate or steak and syrup?

I'll pray, in my heart of heart, that From makes with this what they did with Metal Wolf Chaos.

If you are interested in 8-bit JRPGs, this is a throwback. It's not a hard concept.

I'm, personally, not, but if you are, it's cool.

Voxels does not an 8-bit game make. Nor does this look like a JRPG. It looks like an action RPG.

While I still disagree on the folks here who dislike Dragon Quest, these seem to be the same folks who think this game looks awesome.

Which is does.  Man, this looks groovy and rad and neat and I am not even a big fan of Zelda type games.  Seriously clever art style.  I can only hope it will have a game editor so we can make our own little games.  Probably not, but something about its look sort of makes it seem possible..

I enjoyed Zelda 3. But really, I'm over that whole subgenre. Knock yourself out though.

ARPG to me is more the Diablo-school of thought. Titan Quest, etc. Or even Fallout 3.

Since you brought it up, the noticeable dearth of Legos in Lego Star Wars/Doctor Jones/Batman has bothered me a great deal.  A few things are made of Legos, but not very many except in Lego Town which isn't even a real level.

They do explode in a shower of Lego pieces though :awesome_for_real:

And Legos don't look like Legos anymore. There are just many "custom" pieces now in those kits.

Also: Bionicle.  I wasn't really going that route, just that a level of, say, Lego Batman consists of Lego people and a handful of Lego objects (the interactable things) all set in a non-Lego backdrop.  Lego manhole cover but non-Lego street.  Am I the only one bothered by that?

I was bothered by it too.  Part of why I didn't buy the games yet.  Lego people should be in a lego world.

Lego purity measuring sticks notwithstanding, the games are fun in their way. I like platformy stuff that doesn't punish me for sucking horribly at it.

EDIT: To put it another way, they're very easy. Aimed at kids, really.

They are great, the art choices don't take away from them.  Easy, sure, except for that one part in Indiana Jones where you have to jump across rotating columns.

yes I know. I have those games as well. I was talking about the main levels.

I only ever knew one kid who had enough lego (with baseplates and buildings and shit) to make a proper Lego town. And it took up most of his room. Normal people do not have this, and instead use the floor or table.

It would take approximately 412 million dollars to build a lego town in an average sized room.  I just made that up right now.

It's because people who make games have mostly forgotten that they're games and not vehicles for economic growth.  It's because there's a whole new generation of people (maybe people) who have never played Donkey Kong, and don't know that you don't have to be able to save the princess.  It's also partly global warming and George Bush.  Oh, and the Blue Collar Comedy Tour.  A travesty.

I have to admit that after seeing the video that I'm oddly fascinated with this.  Too bad it will never be in English so no big deal.  I get to save my money.
