Title: All the stereotypes about gamers are...true, apparently!

It even gets in a shot at women gamers too.

Seattle-Tacoma? Who wants to bet the average person in that god-awful fake canadian city whatwith all the rain and shit is 35, fat, and depressed?

Edit: Pittsburgh (OF ALL THE POSSIBLE CITIES) agreeing, does not help their case.

How about a study done in south beach, or say, Hawaii. You know, somewhere where people aren't bundled in fucking 9 layers for 6 months out of the year? I hate researchers who waste money.

What's confusing? It was a survey done in Seattle, unless I read it wrong. You ever been to Seattle? The only choices are:

Be drunk, play games, get rained on, and be depressed.

I'm going to assume they didn't poll working fathers and moms and shit, so the results are going to be skewed and ridiculous. Not to mention:

Quote
The Seattle-Tacoma area was chosen for the study, researchers said, both because of its size as the 13th largest media market in the United States and because its Internet usage level is "the highest in the nation." The study was done in 2006; the results analyzed in 2008.

While the study helps "illuminate the health consequences of video-game playing," it is not conclusive, its researchers say, but rather serves to "reveal important patterns in health-related correlates of video-game playing and highlights avenues for future research."

Yea, it has the highest net usage. The weather there is nasty as fuck, unless you own a boat. But you're only gonna use that for 4 months out of the year.

I'd say it's pretty revealing of important patterns in health-related correlates of living in seattle.

I get fat and depressed when I play games too much. Therefore I ride a bicycle hard and fast in the sun. One cancels the other out.

I haven't been to Seattle that many times but that's not my impression of the city.

The rain doesn't really keep people from going outside and doing outdoorsy things here, its more that there's a lack of sunlight due to cloudcover. As far as rainfall itself, its more of a constant drizzle. I've used my umbrella about 9 times in the last 15 years.

That said, Pittsburg and Seattle are not good measures for determining the mental health of any activity, gaming, scuba diving or nude parasailing.

Fine, cloudcover, rain, whatever you want to call it, it results in Grey. Point is, those places breed depression.

I don't think a study is required to know an activity that equates to sitting on ones ass is going to have an above average correlation to fatness and depression. Id imagine you could swap out video games with any sedentary activity and get similar results.

Washington is middle of the pack in national statistics for depression and obesity. These statistics really mean fuck all in and of themselves but I doubt its skewing the results by a large margin. Some of the sunniest states have the highest incidence of depression and obesity.

I was just thinking that I can't wait for their next research gig: "We polled 400 call centers and found out that, ya know, filled with lazy, homicidal, fatasses."

no shit, rly?

I think we were even more depressed when we got all that sun last month.

It's true. Seattle is depressing and wet. Also, I think they have a world record or something of highway killers (who were also depressed... preying on depressed hitchhikers).

The subjects ranged in age from 19 to 90

Good thing no one younger then 19 plays video games.

I find this funny coming from a guy who recently moved from a blistering hot wasteland, where no one in their right mind would venture outside during the day - to another blistering hot wasteland, where no one in their right mind would venture outside during the day.

That being said, it doesn't suprise me that internet usage is high in Seattle, but I think it's as much attributable to the general higher tech lifestyle in the northwest as it is to the rainy weather.

In his defense, Austin is not what you're making it out to be. Its actually rather nice there. If he lived in say, Houston, like I did for 2.5 years, then your point would definitely fit. Fucking swamp of a shithole fucking city.

Sorry, flashbacks. I'm ok now.

Schild, if thats the most you can think to do in Seattle, you are terribly uncreative.

We're all Kurt Cobain over here!  :oh_i_see: Fat Kurt Cobains. Who play WoW. Wait... what were we talking about again? Oh yeah, a shitty survey. Anybody read the actual paper and not just the newsbite cliff notes? Someone less lazy than me did a writeup on it.

So we play cause we're depressed, and we're depressed cause we play?

Well, you can also see live concerts performed in the rain by drunk overweight gamers.

And attend a convention run by and attended by drunk, overweight gamers.

Hey, enough with the overweight comments. Washington is mountain mama land. Natives look like Kevin Smith, including the males.
