Title: Weekend Deal - Sale on Valve Software

10% off the Valve Complete package, 66% off everything else.  Funny, because a friend of mine was telling I should get the Half Life Complete package earlier this week.

Since I already own the Orange Box, but never have played the original Half:Life (or most of Half:Life 2 stuff to be honest) I took the opportunity to buy the total Half:Life 1 set for a whopping 5 dollars and 6 cents.

Figure this way I can get the whole story instead of jumping in at the middle and being confused and thus not wanting to continue.

You really don't have to play the original Half-Life. A lot of people treat it like robot jesus, but to be honest at this point it's relatively bland. The HL2 + Episodes are vastly superior and almost present a meaningful story.

It's not robot jesus, but it's a pretty good romp; Op For and Blue Shift are also fun. Especially for 2 dollars.

In retrospect, it might seem bland now I guess.  But I absolutly loved HL 1 when it came out.  One of my most favorite games ever.

But yeah, obviously its been eclipsed due to technological advances since its come out.  But it was a damn cool experience for its day, and I do feel if you want to get the whole HL story, you need to play it.

Now if only those fuckers would finish the Black Mesa mod.

It just doesn't hold up as well as Deus Ex is all. It was eclipsed by things that followed the path it blazed. If Deus Ex had never come out, I'd probably still think Half-Life was robot jesus.

Good points all around.  I'm right along with you in thinking that Deus Ex is Robot Jesus Greatest Game Evah Blah Blah.  I guess HL suffers in this regard because everything that came after HL attempted to copy it, and thus surpassed it eventually (which is good, because HL blew away all the crap that was FPS games before it).  Meanwhile, nobody seems to have even attempted to make a better version of Deus Ex, which really pisses me off.

Still, I have all the fond memories of running through HL1 one in my head, and I'm a fan of historical empathy.
