Title: Web Apps Post by: stray on August 10, 2009, 03:08:37 PM Talk about cool web apps. I don't know a bunch outside of the usual (Google).
Adobe's stuff is slick Buzzword (http://www.buzzword.com), http://www.photoshop.com (http://www.photoshop.com) I can't connect my bank to Quicken Online, but stumbled upon Mint.com (http://www.mint.com) which I really like. ZenBe (http://www.zenbe.com) is the best email app I've seen, but they temporarily closed registeration for free signups. Old news to some of you probably (but that's why I made a thread. Educate me) Title: Re: Web Apps Post by: stray on August 11, 2009, 05:54:23 AM Another.. (have not tested yet)
Autodesk Dragonfly (http://dragonfly.autodesk.com/) (home design app) Title: Re: Web Apps Post by: schild on August 11, 2009, 08:53:20 AM http://a.viary.com
Title: Re: Web Apps Post by: stray on August 11, 2009, 01:54:53 PM Bookmarked! Looks good..
I'm surprised there are no other suggestions. Title: Re: Web Apps Post by: schild on August 11, 2009, 02:34:23 PM As far as Adobe goes, the only thing I use is Kuler (http://kuler.adobe.com/) when I'm working on games, I use it ALL the fucking time. Hell, when I'm in photoshop doing ANYTHING I use it.
The other problem Stray, is that for most things, there's no reason to use a webapp. You, however, have the most completely fucked up taste in software and preferences towards software on the planet. You need to be made aware of that, I think, if it wasn't already apparent. Title: Re: Web Apps Post by: stray on August 11, 2009, 02:56:30 PM I think my most fucked up choice in software is WriteRoom (http://www.hogbaysoftware.com/products/writeroom) (not a web app).

I much prefer Scrivener (http://www.literatureandlatte.com/scrivener.html). Has the full screen editor but with a whole wack of super useful tools. EDIT: Also not a webapp. Title: Re: Web Apps Post by: schild on August 11, 2009, 03:18:18 PM Is there an app like one of those but for PC? I'm not doing my writing on a mac. No chance.
Title: Re: Web Apps Post by: stray on August 11, 2009, 03:23:02 PM Yep, DarkRoom (it's also free). http://they.misled.us/dark-room (http://they.misled.us/dark-room)
Not sure about Scrivener though.. Title: Re: Web Apps Post by: schild on August 11, 2009, 03:25:48 PM http://baara.com/q10/
Q10 > jDarkroom Just tried them both. In fact, I'm surprised I had to dig anywhere to find Q10. It's superb. (Q10 was written so you wouldn't need java or .net installed, it's basically the same thing as dark/jdark and writeroom) Title: Re: Web Apps Post by: Prospero on August 11, 2009, 03:39:58 PM Is there an app like one of those but for PC? I'm not doing my writing on a mac. No chance. Why? Does the Mac eat words? I ask because that is one of the things I find to be fairly pleasant on the Mac, partially because of the selection of nice apps for writing, and partially because I think the built-in backup and searching is superior.Title: Re: Web Apps Post by: stray on August 11, 2009, 03:45:41 PM http://baara.com/q10/ Q10 > jDarkroom Just tried them both. But it's got better features while still being unobtrusive. Title: Re: Web Apps Post by: schild on August 11, 2009, 03:49:15 PM Is there an app like one of those but for PC? Very nice. http://celtx.com/ Title: Re: Web Apps Post by: schild on August 11, 2009, 03:51:38 PM CeltX ain't no good for novels though, just saying.
Title: Re: Web Apps Post by: schild on August 11, 2009, 04:06:15 PM http://www.blackobelisksoftware.com/
OM NOM NOM Writeroom + Scrivener for Windows. Edit: They also have! http://www.blackobelisksoftware.com/momentumwriter/index.html Title: Re: Web Apps Post by: DraconianOne on August 11, 2009, 04:09:04 PM No, Celtx isn't any good for novels but is pretty good for script development and the collaborative tools are adequate too. For a free app, it's brilliant but generally I still prefer Final Draft.
For other writing development, I've got Liquid Story Binder (http://www.blackobelisksoftware.com/) which seems quite useful. It normally retails for $50 but you can get it for free by through a Trialpay scheme. I keep meaning to make more use of it but most of my contacts use Final Draft so that still gets used. EDIT: Pipped to the post. Title: Re: Web Apps Post by: DraconianOne on August 11, 2009, 04:15:32 PM I also like Freemind (http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page) mind mapping software in principle but I only really use it to capture stuff I've scribbled down. I find I work faster and more free with a pen and paper for an initial braindump then transfer it to Freemind for storage and more work.

None of these are actually free. I guess I could make a brand new GoDaddy account and just merge that shit or get a refund. Title: Re: Web Apps Post by: stray on August 11, 2009, 04:23:59 PM I'm a little afraid of black obelisk's writer :why_so_serious: C'mon man... no delete?
Seriously though, good idea for what it is. A bit too restrictive for me though. I don't always write creatively.. Sometimes it's just letters, and I don't need "momentum" per se. The other one has full screen writing for any of the formats.Seriously though, good idea for what it is. A bit too restrictive for me though. I don't always write creatively.. Can't do the trialpay thing, all the forms of payment I own are already attached to my GoDaddy account. Balls. Every other offer is aaaasssssssssss that I wouldn't want to give my personal information to.

Every other offer is aaaasssssssssss that I wouldn't want to give my personal information to. Can't remember which one I did but I don't seem to get pestered about anything from any of them. Didn't have to pay anything either so all good apart from the hassle of signing up and then signing off. Title: Re: Web Apps Post by: schild on August 11, 2009, 04:34:36 PM All the ones showing up right now are ones you have to pay for.
