Touchdown on the 40th anniversary in a little over five hours. Very cool to listen to the audio 'as it happened' rather than as clips.

Fascinating. Unfortunately they've just lost signal for the next 45 minutes; I'll have to check this again later.

Even he knows! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-f_DPrSEOEo)

Disclaimer- that is the only Jim Carrey movie I have ever found even remotely amusing.

The unfortunate thing this anniversary reminds me of is after we got to the moon and got the Tshirt we proceded to dick around in LEO for the next 40 years for manned space flight which is just a shame.

I agree with this.  Thankfully, surveillance equipment has advanced enough that we can put it on the moon and still find terrorists.

True despair: If all the other people are fooled or maybe don't even exist who are you reaching out to with your affirmation image?

We had a few of the engineers who worked on Apollo here back for a bar-b-que yesterday.  Was pretty cool.

Buzz Aldrin punches a conspiracy theorist in the face (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/07/20/buzz-aldrin-punches-moon_n_241664.html)  :drill:

That's fantastic.  I'd heard he did it, but I didn't know there was video.

Armstrong lives around here in Indian Hills and I worked for the Architect who did his house when I was in school.  Said he's a very, very private guy and doesn't like going in public.  His wife was the one who made all the calls to the office.  Kind of sad.

Neil Armstrong is the same way in western Ohio.  I was always puzzled by him- he could easily have been a Congressman and probably a Senator.

John Glenn was also from Ohio, even if Armstrong wanted a political career two astronaut senators from one state would have been a little much, and running against Glenn may not have looked attractive.

I actually admire him all the more for not cashing in on his celebrity status. The scant interviews he has done indicate that he doesn't believe he is suited to that job, and that fundamentally he is just another guy. He seems incredibly pragmatic, and wouldn't want to ride his celebrity status to a job he didn't feel able to do properly.
